How are the cabins inside Disney?

We are considering the cabins for a week the end of august. Any feedback? Is it worth the money?

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

I've stayed there before with a family of five, I had a great time. We loaded the fridge up with goodies and saved a ton of money!

The bus system is the only thing to get used to, we didn't reserve a golf cart.. and you need one! The bus system is pretty lame, but StaceyDarling! and me were used to it by the second day. The boat to the MK was a great plus though!

If you don't have a golf cart you have to get on a bus outside of your cabin at a bus stop, then ride to the front of FW and get on another one to the parks. It wasn't that bad, just pretty confusing the first day.

Also, it's very quiet and enjoyable if you like to grill or do things outdoorsy. But don't think you'll be roughing it!

It's nice, cozy, defintely disney styled and spacey. My only advice would be to get a golf cart!

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

We decided to try the cabins when my sister and nephew wanted to join us for a trip. For 6 people, it worked out really well. But, I felt cut off from the Disney feel that I am used to from the Deluxe resorts. I did the driving myself while there and I am glad I did, because the transportation looked like a hassle.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

i like the whole feel and atmosphere of FW. if you're going to be there for at least a week, then i highly recommend it..... i say this because the bus system is a little hairy scary, so the "to" and "from" takes a little longer and a little getting used to. but the cabins are great! they have a general store w/ lots-o-supplies and regular maid service.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

I really liked the cabins. They are roomy and comfortable. The bedroom has a full size bed and a bunk bed. The living room has a murphy bed. The kitchen is large with a nice size table. We liked having a grill too.

The bus system is the only problem with FW. We chose to drive when going to the parks (except for MK) and having your vehicle right outside the cabin made this really easy.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

We're FW only folks, and we've stayed in the cabins several times... love them! We like the fact that we don't have people on top of & below us like you do at the hotels, and we like being able to sit on the deck in the morning watching birds and drinking coffee. There's not much Disney theming at FW, and we like that since it means we have an oasis after we've been at the parks all day. The kitchen is nice since you can cut down on your food bill with it, and if you get things at the outposts, they're more expensive but not horrible. Your other option is to have groceries delivered or, of course, if you have a car you can just zip to a grocery. The bus system can be a little cumbersome, but we're not Park Commandos, so we don't really care how long it takes. The bus stops are pretty convenient and there are maps so you can tell which to take. The bus drivers are pretty helpful too; and the buses run about every 20 minutes. It's do-able without the golf carts (about $50 a day), but we do rent them since we like to play on them! You can also rent bikes...but we're lazy... There is a pool at FW - no lifeguard and it's just a pool - no theme. The campers are generally friendly, so everyone says hello, and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere. Everytime I offer to get a deluxe someplace else for our vacation, the Herd looks at me like I have 12 heads and snorts. Good luck with your decision!

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

Mabye im a bus savant, but I thought it was simple. (If It has not changed recently).

1) Parks are accessed via Outpost, or Settlement. This you need to know.

i.e. Buses leave for Epcot via Outpost. Just grab the outpost bus from your stop and transfer. I was not that bad a wait.

2) When returning, just grab the first bus with your color (i.e. Purple) and get off at your stop.

Any color goes to Settlement from Outpost, and vice versa.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

Just read an article in motor home magazine that Disney is revamping Fort Wilderness. They are updating the pool area to be a themed pool like many of the value hotels as well as putting in a hot tub area for the adults. They will also be making changes to many of the campsites to be more modern. Not sure if they are changing anything with the cabins but for campers who visit every year this is something to look forward to.

Yep, heard about all of this back in Feb. We have a contact in FW management who told me this. New, themed pool, pet area, larger sites, etc.

These are much needed changes and I am very happy they are doing it.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

I am glad they are making changes too. We just bought a camper and can't wait to bring it down to FW! The new changes will make me want to go even more. Sorry, I have no first-hand info about the cabins, but have heard great things about them and they look cool.

Re: How are the cabins inside Disney?

How about this video. The first resort they show is SSR and then comes the Fort Wilderness resort with some inside shots of the cabins
