We do too for the same reason. I have a great-grandmother who will be 103 in November. She's actually pretty healthy, lives ALONE , and I think she's going to outlive me! But, it's always in the back of my mind that we may need to go home to tell her goodbye.

Not for WDW but I did for cruise...and ALMOST needed it. It would have saved me THOUSANDS if SWA hadn't been able to reroute me on a whirlwind tour of the US and we made it to the ship with an hour to spare.

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

We always take insurance but then we would have to pay for any medical emergency in the USA and of course there is all the numerous things airlines can do with baggage that needs to be covered too.
I have made several claims over the years, damaged bags and medical treatment and prescriptions etc. I think it would be risky for overseas visitors not to take insurance.

We've considered the flight insurance but not the vacation insurance. I hope I haven't jinxed anything by saying that. Murphy's Law, you know . . .

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

Just a thought for those that do purchase the insurance...

I didn't know it was optional. I always book and pay the $200.00 per reservation downpayment that includes the insurance. This year we needed to change our reservations from two family suites at ASM to two rooms at POR (one family backed out of the trip) and we LOST the $200 we had paid and had to pay it AGAIN when we booked the rooms at POR. The CM told me that I was basically canceling the policy and it could not be transfered. It seems that once 14 days passes after you book, the insurace is nonrefundable OR transferable. Needless to say this was not fun to deal with. From now on well will be purchasing the insurance 30 days out.

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

It hasn't seemed to make sense for us. The packages were refundable except for the deposit up to 5 days before the trip. It seemed like a very slim chance that something would come up- and I figured that if 4 days before we suddenly couldn't go... well, we'd have bigger problems than losing the trip money.

That's interesting. I just called and cancelled our reservations this week. The insurance was an issue--almost $67 for each room (we had 2 rooms booked), but we got the rest back. It was waaaaayyyyy past the 14 day mark.

The one time I bought cruise insurance was for an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Grand Princess. The cruise itself was fine, but there were quite a few passengers that were unable to make it to Fort Lauderdale.
I think the date of the cruise had something to do with it, September 16, 2001.
That's right, air travel was all messed up. So were a most passengers' itineraries and add ons. I'd ordered a pair of plush robes, chocolate strawberries and champagne, flowers and none of it was in our cabin when we arrived. In fact, it dribbled in over the course of 3 days. Princess used the excuse that "FedEx wasn't flying all week, so they weren't able to get all the paperwork from LA to Lauderdale in time. I had to get refunds on the food and flowers because they weren't there for sailing. Of course, I don't know why they didn't just e-mail and fax everything.
Our sailing was delayed for 2 hours because literally 100 families were en-route from Chicago and hadn't made it in time.

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

I always take the insurance, especially with my knee and if something happens and I have to go for medical treatment... It's worth the additional 100 bucks to have piece of mind.

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

I always purchase it incase of flight change.. last year my flight had been canceled and got to stay in Disney an extra day and instead of charging me for the cancelation flight which they do if you don't have flight insurance they didn't charge me. It's good to have it in an emergency.

Re: do you purchase the vacation insurance?

I may be wrong, but when I spoke to the booking cm, I was told if you cancelled your trip within 24 hours you are only charged $200. You get the rest of your money returned. This is just their policy not the extra insurance. I do however get flight insurance because that I couldn't afford to lose. If I have this incorrect, please let me know. thanks
