For the first time in my life, I'm staying somewhere other than the Poly. I'd love some great info about the GF. Best building location, etc. ...things to do there, etc. We're going in Dec. so I know that the decorations are HUGE...can't wait!

We have not stayed there yet but had dinner there many times. It's beautiful and one of our goals is to stay there some day.

Re: Calling all fans of the Grand Floridian

OH, how exciting!

I spent some time there on our last trip doing the My Disney Girl Princess tea Party.

1900 Park Fare is there.. and gets a lot of great reviews.

You can see the MK fireworks from the beach or dock.. that's pretty cool. You can also see the electric water parade on the lagoon.

So convenient being able to take the monorail or boat right over to the MK.

Love the theme/Victorian Style.

You can rent boats/sea racers.. those are so fun.. my Dkids love them.

You can also do a Pirate Cruise. You can also have afternoon tea. They also have a parents night out club for kids.

OH and when you are there.. they will have the big Gingerbread house. and you can buy their yummy gingerbread!

Re: Calling all fans of the Grand Floridian

Staying there during the Christmas season is the best. Saying they decorate for the GF is a gross understatement. Even the window displays for the stores in the lobby are amazing. Here is one.

I could literally post hundreds of photos just from the GF during our stay there during December a few years ago.

GF is my dream resort- however, its out of our budget I am afraid. We love to take the Monorail there though for breakfast at Park fayre and then a walk around the beautiful grounds and lobby.
If you are able to go there then I would in a heartbeat.

As often as we go, I usually stay at the best deluxe resort that is offered the best passholder discount. As far as I know, they have never had the GF at a really good discount. We were lucky enough to win the Hewlett Packard trip for 4 nights/5 days at a resort of our choice. It was our best chance to use GF. We had the MK view over the lagoon and the tax return for the trip was over $4,000. And we drove there.

Re: Calling all fans of the Grand Floridian

I have also not had the pleasure of staying there yet, but I'd certainly love to. I just got back from a trip and my friends and I spent some time dining there as well as sitting in the lobby sipping drinks and listening to the live music that is provided by a small jazz band they've got there. We ate at the GF Cafe, I know it isn't the fanciest of their restaurants, but it was a very good meal. If you have the money I'd certainly suggest staying there. I have stayed at the Polynesian and the Contemporary on many occaisions. I really enjoy being able to take the Monorail to the Kingdom or EPCOT, or even just to visit the other resorts.

I've stayed here twice...once in Boca Chica (more recently) and the other time in Sago Cay (awhile ago). I like the Boca Chica building better. It's more centrally located and right next to the boat landing from when you come back from MK. It's also in front of one of the pools (although if you're going in December, you probably won't have much need). You do have to walk around the pool to get to the main building but it's not that bad.

Awhile back, I stayed at Sago Cay with my sister. This building was more out of the way but it was closer to the CS restaurant, which was great for my sister who loved their slushies and nachos. You could also sneak through a walkway attached to the CS that passes by one of the more fancier restaurants (I forget which one) to get to the main building area. My sister and I always got weird looks when we did that (we were still in college at the time) but we saw

Both times we had standard rooms, we could sort of see the fireworks from our Sago Cay room and we had a pool view room from the Boca Chica building (but the other side had a lagoon view/MK view).
