Re: Poly or Grand

I absolutely love both resorts. So it would be a hard decision for us too. First off, if we had no kids, totally GF-we went on our honeymoon and totally LOVED it. I would love to stay again, I guess even with them. I saw a lot of people there with kids too!
The Poly we have never stayed at but love it! We can't wait to try it out with or without the kids. The pool looks fun and both places have the Monorail and boats, so it's a tuff one. Elegant or hawaiian, what are you going for, have you stayed before at either?

Re: Poly or Grand

We stayed at the Poly and we loved every minuet of it. We had the choice for either resort and for us it will always be the Poly as the GF just seems to stuffy for us. I'm sure it's not it's just a feeling we get

Re: Poly or Grand

I'm not so concerned about the GF being stuffy.
The GF was scheduled to be our resort in October, but with the economy tanking, it's going to be the WL. That's a good $100 a night less than monorail resorts.
Maybe next year IF things improve. And I'm afraid of how big an IF that is. We've already really cut back on visits to WDW this year and with the price of gas, I'm weighing whether I'm going to renew the AP when it runs out in October.
(OK, the Contemporary wing is only $45 more, but the tower is $100)

Magical Journeys is keeping an eye out for rates at the Grand Floridian. Originally we were going to pay $975 for 3 nights (AAA Disct) at Poly. Then Magical J got us a passholder rate for $874 for 3 nights. If somehow we got the chance to stay at the Grand for $975 or less we would consider changing.

If you had to pick, would it be Poly or Grand ?? And why???
The Poly has been refurbished...new flat screen tvs, etc. I don't think the GF has. Two years ago we stayed at the GF in Sago Cay and it was really obvious the carpets needed to be replaced and some wallpaper was coming off. It kinda looked a little shabby. My sister stayed at the Poly last year...the rooms and hallways were looking nice and fresh.

Personally I would stay at the Poly and wait for the GF to get spruced up.

Re: Poly or Grand

I would have to go with GF. I've been to the resort several times for ADRs and it just seems so.....GRAND! . The Poly looks okay but I just haven't warmed up to that resort yet; don't know why.

Re: Poly or Grand

well my vote is to stay at the Poly. We had similar decision to make back in 200 when we booked to stay at the GF for our honeymoon. Well, 2 weeks before our trip, we get a letter from the tour operator to sat they were re-furbing the GF and there would be minor machinery work ongoing and screens in place. We were offered to change if we wanted to to another resort or just deal with it. Well, any other time we probably would have just gone along wih it but for our Honeymoon we wanted everything perfect. Thank the lord we changed!
When we arrived at the Poly we had such a fabulous welcome and instantly were in awe of the building. It is so beautiful. At that time of it's existence, they also had two gorgeous parrots in the lobby too...they were adorable.
Anyway, I digress.......so we checked in, very happy and decided to have a stroll to the GF to check it out. Fingers crossed we had not made a bad decision..... Well, we got there and realised we had done right. There were boards up evrywhere! Workmen everywhere! Power tools everywhere! Noise everywhere! You get my drift? It was horrible. There was a poor girl trying to sunbathe too and we could blatently see a couple of workmen ogling her over the balcony.
We went into the main lobby and although, yes it is oppulent, it does not have the same welcoming look as the Poly does it also comes over very pompus to me . I also beleive the CM's at the Poly are friendlier ( my own opinion of course ) as our welcomes and dealings with both resorts has shown me.

I love the Poly and would stay there in a milli second should I have the money.

Re: Poly or Grand

Either is great. But I like POLY best...GF is nice but just seems a little "stuffier."

Re: Poly or Grand

What style do you prefer? The GF seems more formal and fancy and the Poly seems more casual and laid back. Which of those appeals more to you?

I am totally more casual and the Poly is my dream resort. I can't wait to stay there in a few years when my DS is old enough to enjoy the Volcano pool.

Sorry, but it's got to be the Polynesian. Fantastic atmosphere, you really fell like you are in the South Pacific. Plus, you have the most transportation options from there. The TTC is a very short walk and that gets you to the EPCOT monorail and express buses to the other parks, no stopping at other resorts!

Re: Poly or Grand

The Poly in my book. We plan on staying at the GF for our next trip to try it out but the Poly was really awesome. Its a very relaxed resort that really makes you feel like you are away at an island if you really take it all in. the Poly.
