Swan and Dolphin offer gas rebates

INTERESTING . . . this was in the Orlando Business Journal!

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort is attempting to lure guests to its property with the chance at winning a gas rebate check.

Through Labor Day, Florida residents who drive to the resort will be entered into a weekly random drawing for a check reimbursing them $1 for every mile -- round-trip -- from their home to the resort.

Those who drive to the resort in hybrid cars will receive complimentary valet parking and "extra pampering" for their vehicles.

Located at Walt Disney World, the Swan and Dolphin Resort has 2,265 guest rooms and 329,000 square feet of meeting space. The resort also has 17 restaurants and lounges, five pools, two health clubs, tennis and golf.

Re: Swan and Dolphin offer gas rebates

It's a nice gesture but I wonder if it will actually bring more business to those resorts. How about airline rebates????

How fun! I love the hybrid car bit, that would be a nice reward for doing what you were already planning to do.

Re: Swan and Dolphin offer gas rebates

Sounds like a scam:
You might "win" a reimbursement check during a drawing.
Of course, if I were to win, that would be about a $400 check.
Mickeysgirlz would get about $325-350. (Right?)
Catfish 1999 would get a little m ore than me and depending on how much farther south and east he is, Tonyksl would get about $450.
The winner would be King of Miami.

But it's too much of a crapshoot for me with gas at $4.10 a gallon and more to go and hope you win that week's drawing.
We're talking about 20 gallons plus around $28 in tolls, or a total of $110 just to go and come home. And THAT'S why we haven't been up to WDW that much this year and that's why I can't go up for the 4th of July.

I think it sounds like a great deal if you were already planning on driving and staying at the Swalphin, would I choose to voluntarily drive based solely on possibly winning this prize? No, but if I already had those plans... awesome bonus!

Re: Swan and Dolphin offer gas rebates

Next they should try to make their hotel nicer. I still wouldn't stay there if I was PROMISED a roundtrip worth a gas. And I live in Philadelphia (almost 1000 miles)

You must have had a pretty bad stay there.

I've only been in the hotels for dinner, drinks, and shopping but what I saw was very nice.

Interesting indeed...seems to be a popular gimic nowadays with the constant rise in gas prices. Free gas is better than cash to me..

Wish it was all Disney resorts. We're driving this year. That would be fun to be able to participate.

Yes I think it is only good if you were already heading there. Hey you're there why not enter!

I really wish you hadn't listed the cost to get there . . . boo . . . I don't want to know!!! kidding . . . my friend and I share that amount anyway and we have passes AND we do the values . . . average weekend trip with dining, some "junk" for the kids runs me about $400 . . . for a weekend away I still think its a smashing deal!! I can go to Lion Country Safari, in WPB for the day and it runs me an easy $150 with passes/food and "junk"!

So DISNEY . .. with the parades, dining, characters, rides, fireworks, memories and more . . . is still the perfect option for me and the girls!

What exactly should they make nicer?
They are pretty much on par with any of the Disney O&O deluxe hotels.
Also, when did you stay and which one as they've just finished an extensive refurb of both hotels.

My point was more along the lines of me complaining that in the fall/winter 2006/7 I was able to drive up for the day and handle it.
That was when I was obsessing about taping all the fireworks shows.
But since the price of gas has been north of $3.30 a gallon, I've done the math and find myself not so willing to drive up for a day or two. And I've got APs, so admission and parking are paid for before I even leave the driveway.
I've been willing to overlook the tolls, until now, especially as I've got a Sun Pass and it's keyed to a credit card.
But now? I'm even considering driving 95 from the Sawgrass up to Fort Pierce instead of taking the Turnpike all the way. And I 95 is a longer route by a few miles.

Re: Swan and Dolphin offer gas rebates

How about offering free self-parking. They are the only hotels on-property where you have to pay for the privilage on parking your own car.
