Re: deluxe bus service

We have stayed at both the Poly and The contemp and at both those places we have had to wait longer for buses to DTD and AK than we did when we stayed at Dixie Landings( I know it now Riverside, but to me it will alway be Dixie Landings)

Re: deluxe bus service

We went from OKW to POR on our last trip and we really thought OKW had the bus thing down! There were families at POR who had been waiting for an MK bus for 45 minutes so they finally just started getting on the Epcot buses..then the Epcot buses started backing up. It was crazy. I really think it's a resort vs. resort battle rather than a mod vs. deluxe one.

Re: deluxe bus service

I usually stay at the Deluxe resorts and just prefer the driving myself. I did use the buses when we stayed at the DTD Hilton the last time, but, they have their own buses and are on a schedule, so, I could time it just fine.

Re: deluxe bus service

from what we have experienced, we usually find that there are fewer people on the Deluxe buses and they don't run as frequently as the moderates but although the moderates run more often they are usually busier! I don't mind too much though, we are just happy to be there. What does annoy me is when groups don't keep up with each other and start going under the barriers to get with their group when you are laready in line. I mean,' yeah I know you want to go 'home' with each other but then so do I and my group manages to stay together so why can't you? ' Just because aunt and uncle bloggs is at the front of the queue does not mean you are automatically entitled to cut in front of the 30 other people waiting for the same bus to join them! WAIT your turn and get in line! Sheesssh....gets my goat!

Yes that can be a huge problem especially at peak times when the buses are already overloaded and lines are long and guests are getting fractious-I also hate it when the bus comes and people start boarding from the sides instead of the lines- maybe its the British and queueing Polly!

Re: deluxe bus service

I agree with everyone else, it is all about timing. Most of the time we don't mind waiting for a bus and we have even passed up a super crowded bus to be able to get seats on the next bus. I like to sit on the bus ride, especially this last trip when I was pregnant and had two small children and DH had the stroller. We usually just use a small stroller as to not bother other people, but this year we will have a 5 month old and a 4 year old, time to put that expensive double stroller to use!! At CBR we hardly had any problems. But this year we took our trip during Mardi Gras and it seemed like the whole state of Louisiana was at CBR so we had to wait awhile sometimes!

Re: deluxe bus service

As others have said, I think it's completely random. We've stayed at both deluxe and mods, and I've used the buses from the Contemp, but it's pretty much hit or miss wherever. Although, I know that when you're standing in 95 degree heat with 105% humidity, it seems like the bus for every single other resort but yours seems to come by at least 3 times before you get picked up!

Re: deluxe bus service

has anyone else noticed that they have a random van parked with some one outside where the loading areas? While we were in EPCOT (about March 1) and there were 4 buses worth of people in our line, with no one in the other lines... I kept looking at the "monitor" parked in the van- 20 feet away. I was wondering if he is the monitor for sending the buses to the right place??? One of the reasons that I thought that was what he was doing was because there were no buses for us for about 35 minutes. Suddenly 4 in a row showed up. We were only going to POFQ, so there should not have been a 45 minute back up for the bus line... I was just wondering how they know that there are a million people in one line... I know that there are the people in the loading areas in the mornings with the walkie talkies... Sometimes I wish that I had one...

Re: deluxe bus service

I think overall, the least deluxe aspect of the deluxe resorts is the bus service.
Poly and Contemporary share everything. WL and GF share most buses and if they don't WL and FW share. During slow periods, the 5 Crescent Lake resorts share one bus. When things heat up, it's Swan, Dolphin, and Boardwalk or Yacht and Beach. AKL doesn't share with anyone. As for frequency of service, I don't think the level of resort translates into better service. And it shouldn't.

Re: deluxe bus service

I agree that it is hit and miss but when we stayed at Port Orleans French Qtr. we left with the we won't stay here again attitude, not because of the resort - it's great, but because the bus service was always over the 20 min. wait plus the circle around the resort is long, plus it was always crowded.
We've stayed at AKL and only had one bad wait, we called and the bus had broken down, they sent one within the next 10 min. after the call. (Don't be shy about using the phones at the resort bus stops).
We stayed at CB this year and it wasn't bad. Sometimes they were very full, especially at park closing. We had chose to wait for the next bus once as our feet were on day 6 and blistered - I still ended up standing because of how many people came in behind us and a lady was trying to stand with a 14month old in her arms. I'm a 48 year old female and I got up and gave her my seat. Where are these young able bodied peoples manners?

Re: deluxe bus service

One day we walked from MK to the Contempory to take the bus to DTD. It was the longest I've ever waited-maybe 45 minutes to an hour. I do think it seems as if whatever resort we are at the other buses come first and/or more frequently. My DD says its Murphy's Law of Disney Buses.

This is a very big problem, ESPECIALLY AT PARK CLOSE!

The reason is, there are many day trippers who will park at DTD for free and then take buses to the closest resort to a park, then needing the bus back to DTD at the end of the day. They do this to save the $12 parking fee.
This is further complicated by the fact that there is no direct service from any park to DTD (see above for the reason) and genuine Disney resort guests need to get to DTD directly from the parks in order to make dinner reservations. Recently, we were in MK and had after fireworks reservations in DTD for dinner. We missed one bus. The next bus was so crowded, we couldn't get on. Time grew so short, we had to take a taxi to DTD in order to get there in time. I also suspect that Disney Transport deliberately limits buses to DTD from the Contemporary/Poly around MK closing time, just to make things difficult for day trippers.
Plus, there's still the problem of getting from one resort to another without driving your own car.

This happend to me last year too. My DH and family went back to the hotel for a swim and I went to DTD to do some Xmas shopping for DD. When I walked to the Contemporary (mind you I was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time) I was totally hot and tired and really wanted to get on the bus. However, I waited over an HOUR for the next bus to DTD! I was actually so upset I [politely] got the manager at the Contemporary involved and he ended up calling the bus dispatch center and getting a bus sent over ASAP. Mind you, by this time, there was a load of us waiting for the same bus. And, this was smack in the middle of the afternoon, not even at the end of MK closing!
