help me decide

Help me please! I am a newbie to the Disney magic ! April 03 was my first trip ever to WDW after many failed attemps. On that trip we stayed off-site and we only got to do 1/2 day at MGM and AK. This time I am planning a trip Oct. 12-19 :D but I can't decide which resort. I am hoping some of you wonderful Disney experts can help me. I have a courtesey hold at ASMo for 7 nights on Fairytale pkg for 1221.83 and I also have a hold at POR waterview same pkg for 1442.75. I originally thought the ASMo would be great for my 6 yr old but if POR is a better deal then I'd like to know about it.

Thanks for your help!!!

Also any helpful advice would be appreciated, I will be traveling with and 13 month old and a 6 yr old :dazed

WELCOME to DisneyCentral kphil89!!!!
You have come to the right place for help!!!
I know you'll get a LOT of EXCELLENT advice here!:)

Okay, my personal opinion would be for the approx. $200 more go for the POR! It just has more to offer and for almost the same price...why not?
I understand the ASMovies would be fun for your son to look at,
and I have considered that for us in the past too, but I just love the moderate resorts so much. Hmmm....GOOD LUCK!!!!

Welcome!!!

We have stayed at All Star Music and Movies. I definitly prefer the Movies. It is great, especially for small children. The giant Dalamations, Buzz Light Year and Woody are just amazing.
We ahve never stayed at POR, but I hear it is nice.
Personally, I would stay at ASMo, and spend the savings on character meals and shopping.

We choose to stay at Wilderness Lodge this year because we all feel in love with the place, so we decided to splurge this time around.

Hope this helps!!! You will get a lot of great advice from everyone on this board....Just a great bunch of people!!!

Welcome kphil89! You will love this website. If you go to this link
this will help with WDW and a little one: http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...&threadid=3698
These were my questions and the great answers I got.
I have stayed at the AS(Music) and we really liked it, but if you can get the POR for only $200 more I would totally go for it!!
Everything I have read sounds like the POR is really great!
Hope that helps and again Welcome :)

For our upcoming trip I wanted to stay at the PO but we're taking our grandsons (8 & 10) and they LOVE basketball so we're staying at All Star Sports, hopefully in the basketball themed building. I want the boys to have a GREAT time so it wasn't a big deal for me. But I think I've almost got my DH talked into making a trip in Dec, just the two of us - then I can stay where I want to.

One thing you might think about - you could stay at the PO and then visit ASMo, take pictures, etc.

I agree with rlander...use the extra money to splurge!!!

If you do All Stars, be sure to request a 2nd or 3rd floor.

I was going to recommend POR also. I had thought about staying at an All Star before our trip in March but when I saw the lines for the buses going back to the All Stars from the parks me and DH said NEVER! We stayed at CBR in March for our first onsite visit and it was AWESOME. We plan on staying at POR this March unless they extend the Fairytale Package in which case we are going WL!!

I think your 6 yr old will LOVE the POR pool from what I've read about it.

Your room location will all depend on which part of PO is closed for rehab at that time. Right now FQ is closed. I haven't stayed at PO so I can't help with good room location.

Have a great time and welcome to DC!

Thanks Willbegone! I have been reading about the rehabs at POR and have come down with a case of the "what ifs"

For instance:

What if the POR is completly closed, will we be offered an relocation to another moderate? Will we know this before arriving? What if the building we want is closed? Can we request an relocation or upgrade? If so at what cost?

For now, I will keep my ressie as is and hope for the best ;)

AS vs POR

Here is where you can find info and pictures on the hotels you are speaking about.

http://wdwig.com/faq_hot.htm

I would think that there just might be more for kids to do at AS Sports than POR. But again, that depends upon likes and dislikes. I suggest you look over the info and pictures. Only you can tell what you like and dislike.

The difference between the standard vs waterview rooms are location only. No difference in size or accommodations. Waterview rooms are closer to the water, whilst the standard are on the sides and some facing the parking lots. I always pick a standard view to save $.
Good luck on your trip and have fun.

PS
Check out Caribbean Beach Resort - my favorite.

kphil89, DON"T WORRY they are renovating the French Quarter not Riverside, so keep your ressies, you'll love it there.

Room requests I personally would request the alligator bayou section building #14...you'll be nice and close to the food and shop and a bus stop. Good Luck and happy planning!!!!

The important thing about making the right reservation is to fully understand what you want out of your visit. I really don't think you can go wrong! :) When we took our grandkids in October, we were going for the once in a lifetime splurge. My granddaughter had a terrible accident. While she was recuperating in the hospital for several days after surgery, she would drift in and out of consiousness and watch the Disney Channel on the hospital's tv. Once she started to be really awake, I promised her that the next summer when she was better, we would take her and her brother to Disney World. When she was better, it really was a big splurge. We stayed at AKL. It was worthy of every superlative you could imagine. If I ever go again, that's where I would want to stay. :) :)

But you are so fortunate to be making many trips. I would recommend that you try different resorts. I think they are all wonderful. Again it just depends on what you want out of the experience! And you are in the right place to understand each resort. You will learn much more here at DC than at any other site.

I know you will have a wonderful trip wherever you choose! :)

BTW . . . My granddaughter is 100% ok now. She might require another surgery in 10-12 years but that is so much better than what might have happened. We were so lucky!

Thanks CaribBeachNut for the tip on CB!

I just made ressies for CB Oct 12-19 on the FT pkgs for $1375!!!!
Now I can lay to rest any concerns over rehabs at POR and it was cheaper. (aren't the rooms slightly bigger at CB anyway?) I know we are going to have a blast:D !

Thanks again
