Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

One thing we did was walk to the TTC and take the bus to AK/DHS from there. It goes directly to the park with no stops so it takes a lot less time than the bus from the resort. DH didn't believe me when I told him this, and he insisted we take the bus home to the Poly from AK. It took about 8 extra minutes which doesn't sound like a lot unless you're exhausted and just want to get home!

Thanks!!! That's reassuring. We are only splurging on the resort because it's his 40th birthday. We are excited about staying at a monorail resort. We love Ohana and everytime we go there we dream of staying there.

We figure that since we are used to a long bus ride regardless of where we go, that we would love having such easy access to two parks.

Thanks again!

That's a real shame you didn't enjoy it as much as you thought you would. We ran into the slow bus routine back in 2001 and ever since then I drive my car or a rental everywhere I need to go in the World. It's just so much faster than the busses.

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

Good honest report. I don’t really agree but there are always different opinions. Not sure what was going on with the pool. It is heated and I have never had it be cold on any trips there in December, September, August, July, June or May. Maybe there was a problem with the heater. Then again I have never been in August where anything was cold.

My biggest complaint at the other resorts that I have been to (Pop Century, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, AKL, Swan and Dolphin) was the food opinions never compared to what I get at the Polynesian with Kona, Kona Island, ‘Ohana, Samoa Snacks and Captain Cook’s and all the other places have nothing open late where Captain Cooks is open 24 hours with the grill closing at 11. I love the options at Captain Cook’s and the best part is it is not the same hamburger and fries or pizza sitting under a heat lamp. Finishing off my day with a Dole Whip is also a big bonus for me. Than again everyone has a different opinion.

I hate Disney Buses at any resort but don’t expect to be any happier at the Beach Club that shares a bus with the Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin and Yacht Club and is the last to be picked up. We usually rent a car or use the other transportation options which the Polynesian has more of than any other resort in WDW. Than again I would never complain about a resort because of the busses since the resort has nothing to do with the busses and has no control over how long they take. To me that would be a complaint about WDW.

I am sure you will find a resort that has what you like.

Aloha

Steve

At the very least we'll have speedy service to two of the parks, with the monorail being so easy.

There's no way I'll be able to talk my husband out of staying there (not that I'd try- being his big day and all). Has anyone had a positive stay there???
please remember that these things are very subjective, just like food in a restaurant. you may like the burger and I hate it.
Besides, caramia didn't say she didn't like it, she just expected something a little different.

Your stay will be wonderful

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

Thanks Dopey!!
I got home that night and talked about it with my husband and he agrees with you. We've come to expect long waits at the buses as well as several stops along the way. Plus, we've never loved the food at the resort we have stayed at as much as we love Ohana! We go to MK and EP the most and those don't require a bus to get there, so I think we will be fine.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm still excited!!!

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

I'm sorry the Poly didn't completely satisfy - hopefully you will have better luck next time.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in a few weeks. I'm hoping to have better luck with the buses - but if not, then I will have to splurge on a cab for the AK, HS and DTD visits. I'm just so excited to finally stay at the Poly - I just love the feel of the place!!

Exactly! I did like the resort itself. I just expected more from a deluxe resort. Other than the room size and monorail, I just didnt feel there were enough "perks" that justified the rate.

That is a great hint!

So sorry that the Poly fell short of your expectations Caramia. I had a similar experience at AKL's food court. After having stayed at POR and really enjoying all the options it had, it was a shock to go to the food court at AKL which, I thought, was much smaller and had fewer options.
That is so weird about the temperature in the pool, you'd think they'd have that nice and toasty

That is so funny because we really liked the AKL quick counter service. We thought the eggs there were really good! I have to agree about POR. They did have a good counter service as well. I think that was where you could get a hand tossed salad made to order.

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

I didn't know that you can get park buses at the TTC. That is good to know!

We last stayed at the Poly 4th of July week in 2003. It was so hot out and the pool was even hotter!! The only way to cool off was to go back to the airconditioned room. The pool was hotter than bathwater! Maybe they'd have some complaints during the hot season, so they don't turn the heater on.

It is very disappointing when our expectations aren't met. I am sorry to hear about the not so good stuff, but I would also like to commend you on finding the good points and listing them.
I can't wait to hear more about your trip!

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

great insight!

i have always thought that a stay at the Poly would be a fantastic way to celebrate our 20yr. wedding anniversary.

but maybe staying at a deluxe really isn't that much better than staying at a mod?

woudl love to hear more about your trip!

Re: Our Polynesian Resort Stay

Good observations. Sorry you were disappointed with the Poly, we loved it but then again we always rent a car. Now that I think about it the pool was a little cool, I remember getting in reeeaal slow inch by inch. I think my biggest complaint about the pool is that there was a lot of bugs and black ants in it.
