If it were me, I would stay with the BWV...you're already going to be staying at AKL in May, this way you'll be able to try both!

Also, I think some of the savannah rooms will not have any animals on them starting in January because they are moving the animals to get them used to the new savannahs with the new DVC area, so if you change to a AKL SV...you may check in and they tell you that the animals in your savannah are not going to be there for that week. They said that the people who book savannah rooms will receive a credit of points if the animals are not there during their stay.

Thanks for that tip. I really didnt like the idea of the extra pts to see some animals walking around when its not for sure you will see them. Heck.. I dont hang out at the resorts anyways.. Besides.. If I want to see animals I will make my way to AK!
thanks for the advise and the links!!!

It's actually a REALLY nice walk along the water. A couple times we opted to walk because the line was so long for the boat. Then again, it was cool weather out, I hate the heat so if it would have been summer I probabyl would have opted for alternate transportation.

Don't hold your breath about watching Illuminations from the Boardwalk! (I know from experience and have the video tape to prove it.) I can watch any MK fireworks show from many different places around Seven Seas Lagoon and see virtually all of it, in fact some shows are so widely staged, that you get a better view outside the park than in. Illuminations MUST be viewed from inside the park. Not just inside the park, but with a mostly unobstructed view of World Showcase Lagoon.
What you will see from the Boardwalk is truly underwhelming! Remember, Illuminations starts with the inferno barge so you won't see more than a red horizon. The country pavilions do a good job of blocking your views of World Showcase Lagoon. Next, you've got the long video globe segments. Same problem as the inferno barge flames, only worse! Yes, you will see most, if not all of the aerial bursts, but the total show length is 12 minutes, of which only about 4 to 5 minutes is fireworks that you can see. Plus, you won't really hear the music that well from the hotel. One final fly in the ointment, unless you're on the upper 3 floors, and facing the garden/quiet pool, you won't really see anything either.

The Boardwalk is the most centrally located of the 5 hotels on Crescent Lake and the closest to the Studios. It isn't that much farther to Epcot than the Yacht and it is the shortest walk to DHS of all five.
Disney's true "best kept secret": You will probably beat the Friendship to either park. From DHS, they first dock at Swolphin. From Epcot, they first dock at Yacht/Beach. Going to Epcot, they dock at Boardwalk first, but must go to the other two before continuing to Epcot, while at least (if I recall correctly) Boardwalk is the last stop before heading to the Studios, but you can still beat the boat most of the time.
I have taken the boat from MGM to Swolphin and then walked to Epcot many times after Fantasmic, so that I could make it to Epcot in time for Illuminations and I have beaten the boat EVERY SINGLE TIME!

It's no longer than walking out to the regular bus stop to all the other resorts.

Thanks for all that info!
I dont expect to see the fire works but it will be nice to see a little something when the kids are tired and dont want to be in the parks.

Re: Which DVC resort to choose??

As Wishy said I would keep BWV because it can be harder to get into. You will have plenty of times to stay at AKL. I would love to stay at BVW someday.

Re: Which DVC resort to choose??

Well... I guess I have a change of plans for my Bday. I have decided to cancel my BWV stay and book a resort in the mountains of VT. I was looking at the book today and seen some great locations. I think I may need a break from Disney after my Christmas trip for a little while but I still plan on going in May and Oct

I sometimes have that same feeling. We have 4 trips in 12 months...December will be #3 of 4....I'm ready to see something new. Plus with our 20 yr anniversary coming up, I think it's a good excuse to see/do something new...like a cruise!!
