Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
After reading a few posts lately about noise in the Value resorts, I figured I'd start a thread about perspective...
This item was captured in one of my trip reports from a few years ago, but the noisiest experience I ever had was in stereo and at the Contemporary. It was an MK EMH morning and it was during Christmas season. So, of course all the lovely gremlins (read: small annoying children) needed to be up at the crack of dawn to wake the entire resort because the parents thought it would be cute. So, we had stomping from the room above us and screaming from the room next door. We ended up laughing about it, but it was really annoying b/c we were up really late the night before at MVMCP! ![]() Also, we stayed for a weekend at GF last year and lemme tell ya, concierge service is pretty cool, but it doesn't mean the guests are any quieter... (or cleaner )We had a room on the first floor and even though there are double-doors leading out to the common area that is set up for the continental breakfast, it was plenty loud. Sleeping in: optional! So, no matter what you do.. the key is setting expectations. ![]()

It's been my experience that rudeness comes in all tax brackets.
![]() We were once on a cruise with the rudest people I've ever encountered - who liked to tell everyone - at the top of their lungs - how rich they were and how they were "slumming" on the cruise. It almost became Mutiny on the Bounty, Part II.

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
We had the same experience (thin walls) at the poly last year!! The family next door came back around 12 midnight and we were fast asleep until their kids started screaming and running and jumping (we could hear all of it) around!! we were on the second floor in tahiti longhouse. we moved to raratonga the second night to get away from the noise (and to have a connecting door with my in-laws--which we were told we had when we checked in)

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
The noise is the issue no matter where you stay. I have stayed during low crowd season and at the farthest point from the hospitality house with my room facing the parking. The noise when kids are around is awfull. I have 3 children myself, but some parents give their kids free reign of the resort and let them go. No matter what time. I could not believe how bad some kids are and the parents encourage it. We also had problems with young adults having a blast and yelling late at night once PisL closed.

Was it almost a case of 'Man/Men overboard?? I am paranoid if we have the tv on late at night in case the next door room can hear it.

We had a guest here once who's child woke up every morning sreeming from the top of his lungs around 6 am. The parents would push him out of the cottage and let him scream outside so they would not have to listen to it. Never mind their fellow guests I had to tell them to cut it out, finally.Apparently that's a daily routine for that boy. Anyhoo, I have never, at POR, had a problem with noisy neighbors. Maybe due to shoulder season, meaning it wasn't all too busy?

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
I dont actually think we have ever had a problem with noise at any resort as far as I can remember. There was one time when we thought we would; we were givin a room on the ground floor at AKL right by the pool and food area and right outside our room was the jacuzzi, with the balcony doors open you could hear everything, it was awful....but then you shut the doors and I swear you could hear a pin drop in that room! Those doors were like 10x double glazed!

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
Ironically enough I don't remember ever really having any noise problems, except at Pop Century. I love being close to the lobby, main pool, etc. at ANY resort. Although, whichever room we had near the 60's pool it was constant running feet reverberating in our room, banging coming from the room above & next to us, and random screaming frequently.
I have to honestly say that we had the same issue at Disneyland Hotel & even at the Grand Californian. I think when you have long hallways and rooms situated in a row it just lends itself to noisier rooms. Never really bothered us per say, just noticed this in Disneyland too.

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
We always stay at POR and the only noise we ever hear is when the toilet flushes above us and the most annoying thing is when there is a large bunch of family/friends that visit back and forth in there rooms and they leave that metal security lock thingy out so when they let the door slam, it hits the lock. Drives me crazy. Thank goodness it hasn't happened to often.

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
We had no noise issues at all at WL last week and we were on the first floor. Our room faced towards the villa's pool, but it wasn't loud at all. Not much sound of running feet either.
I'd say the worst noise is any resort with a catwalk outside the rooms (all mods, all values, and oddly, the Contemporary tower.) It hasn't been too bad for us at the Contemporary, but we were on the 12th floor both times, so there was little to noise from above. And no, the sounds of Chef Mickey's 8 floors below weren't bad at all. Then again, I grew up in a major city, so I can tune out background noise. With any of the deluxe resorts, I'd say it's more a function of who is your neighbor more than the building resonating with the sounds of pounding feet. I've also never really heard much noise come through adjoining doors when both doors are closed. It's just the two of us adults, so we don't make too much noise. (I just hope I didn't yell at the talking heads on TV too loudly for my neighbors )

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
Since we spend most summer weekends down the shore, we've become accustomed to what we call "vacation-tude". A number of people seem to develop a strange attitude while on vacation which consists of complete and utter disregard for manners, consideration, or responsibility of actions. This includes not only the children but adults as well. And they are on vacation - "so what's YOUR problem?"
![]() If anyone is highly concerned about noise, etc. I would suggest staying at the FW cabins. Quiet, relaxing, and much more private than the hotels. This thread reminded me - since we are staying at a hotel this trip, I need to add 'ear plugs' to my packing list. ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() Oh yes how true this is..may be one day Disney will add and exclusive on top of deluxe for the filthy rich that don't want to mix with real people just the ones that tell them how wonderful they are. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Thin Walls and Deluxe Noise
I have stayed at several resorts, deluxa nad moderate(no value resorts, as of yot), and I've never experienced any noise issues. It may be that I've just been lucky. I don't think the issue is necessarily the quality of the construction of the rooms. When I stayed at WL, my room faced the lobby, directly opposite of Whispering Canyon. Anyone who's been there can attest to the cacophonous noise (albeit fun) that emanates there. Standing outside my room it could be deafening, but once the door closed I heard no external noise. I do feel that if some people, and their children, try hard enough, they will disturb you no matter what precautions are taken!
