Pool Hopping at the Resorts
Quick question for anyone that might know...We leave for Disney on Friday morning and our spending the day at the pool at our resort (CSR) are you allowed to pool hop from resort to resort?
We thought the pool at the Boardwalk looked really cool, and thought we might try there on Sunday. I have heard from some people that it is not encouraged, but they really don't enforce it. Does anyone know? Thank you so much!!

Officially, no, you are not allowed to pool hop. If you are a DVC member, you can pool hop anywhere but Stormalong Bay at the Beach and Yacht Club. Unofficially, you can pool hop at some resorts, though Boardwalk might be a bit tough. I have never been asked for id when pool hopping.

I have a question. While at All Star Sports, we saw a few white vans going around the property that had a magnetic sign on them saying "Resort Pool Trasportaion" What is this? and why would someone be going to All Stars from another resort? Just curious;)

Been there - done that! We got snagged at Stormalong Bay years ago. Tried to rent a pool noodle with cash, when asked my room number I made one up. Unfortunately no such room exsisted. SNAGGED!! I then sheepishly replied that we were staying at Dixie Landings (yes, it was a few years back!). The CM then told us (my 11 yr-old niece and I) that pool hopping wasn't permitted. Then he RENTED us the pool noodle and sternly told us not to do it again!!! We stayed for the rest of the afternoon while DH was at a meeting. The CMs are really very nice and Disney tries hard not to anger anyone! My advice -- don't try and rent a noodle!!! Ha Ha! OK-OK Obey the rules and be good!! :angel

The last time my mother and I stayed at All stars(Sept.02),when I made the reservation I asked the res. agent, now that we are resort guests, will we be able to go anywhere on Disney property and use any facility, she said yes. At check-in,I asked the same question and was told yes. At AKL,the guard at the gate told us the same thing. We went to the pool and had a great time. No one hassled us. The next day,we went to Stormalong Bay. We were there for about 45 minutes when a CM approached us and asked us for our room keys. We showed them and I guess she could tell that we weren't guests of the beach Club so she told us we had to leave. We told her that we were told on no less than THREE occasions that as a resort guest we were told we could use any facility on Disney property. she then told us that at the 2 most popular pools on the property,St.Bay and AKL pool, they had a wristband system to identify resort guests. Right there we caught her in a lie because we were at AKL the day before and NO ONE was wearing wristbands on their wrists. When we pointed this out to her,she got flustered and demanded we leave. We demanded to see her supervisor, who made us leave too. We felt like we were treated like criminals.:( :( :(

So I guess the moral of my story is-don't believe everything a CM tells you, because they don't always know the policies. As soon as I got home that day,I fired off an angry e-mail complaining about our treatment at the hands of the two cast members. I did get an apology from Disney, which is what I was after.

The only ones who can pool hop are DVC members. And they cannot use the YC/BC or AKL pool. They are also not permitted to pool hop during holiday weeks. Regardless, if a particular hotel pool is crowded, DVC members will be asked to leave.
The pools are considered amenities of the hotels and are paid for by that hotel's guests in their room rate. That is why the value resorts have "economy" pools (no slides), the moderate resorts have a bit more in their pools (slides and hot tubs), and the deluxe resorts have extensively themed pools. WDW is cracking down on pool hoppers. I have seen resort ids checked at many of the resort pools, including the moderate resorts. Non-hotel guests are asked to leave. Your resort hotel is encoded on your resort id in that series of numbers at the bottom. That's how they can tell which resort you are staying at. |
