Resort hopping to see Christmas Lights

Hello to all!

My family, my parents, my bro/sil/3 girls, my in-laws, and my bil will all be down in WDW for Thanksgiving. My family and I have been a few times during this same holiday and we are looking to do something a little different. I've read on this board that Osbourne Lights will not be at MGM as usual, but my family still wants a Christmas Lights fix. Of course, we'll see Epcots' lights as well as the MK, but I've also read on this board about visiting resorts to see their lights. I am looking for an "agenda" for Wednesday, November 25 (our "arrival" / "not-at-a-park" day). We will be arriving in WDW around 10 am, plan to play a round of putt-putt at Fantasia, hang out at the ASMus pool, and hit DtD to eat. At night, we want to go resort hopping to see some lights. Assuming the lights will be up on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, what resorts should we "hit"? I've read GF and AKL are not to be missed...any others (we're staying at ASMu)? Do you think this is a terrible idea?

TIA:heart

We go to WDW in Dec. and we do the same thing. On that first day we don't go to the parks, instead we check out the Christmas lights and ride the monorail. I've never seen the AKL, but will surely check that out this year. The Grand Floridian is beautiful!! I'm glad you started this. I'd also like to know where else to see great lights!

I have a friend who went the week before Thanksgiving last year, and she said the Christmas decorations were up.:)

I have never been to WDW around Christmas time, but we are finally going this December for a 4 day trip, on Disney Property! We are staying at OKW, but I hear EVERY resort is decorated for Christmas...some more elaborate than others. The Grand Floridian and AKL are among the best, and I also hear the Wilderness Lodge is one of the must sees, too! :D

I have to be honest and say that last year my mother and I ate at whispering Canyon just so we could see the Christmas decorations, and though we liked the food, the christmas decorations,to us,left alot to be desired.

We always resort hop at WDW during the holidays to see the decorations. I do agree that the past few years it seems like less lights. All the major resorts are decorated including the campground - where most campers decorate their sites. It really is great to see.

Christmas decorations

We have gone during Dec. several times. We once saw a great ginger bread village at the Contemporary. The Grand Floridian has a wonderful Christmas tree in the lobby and a huge ginger bread house too.

We've also been to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party at the MK.
It even had snow on Main St.

We have also done a great Christmas dinner show at the Contemporary. They had about seven different stages and tons of characters.

The Christmas dinner show that was held at the Contemporary was discontinued about 3-4 years ago.

Even though the Osbourne Lights are a no go don't miss New York at MGM! They give you 3D glasses to look at the lights and they turn into a "heavenly" sight! Also it snows as you walk down the street.

One year we went to each resort and took pictures of the kids in front of each tree. It's one of our favorite memories. Our favorite tree was at Coronado Springs. If you have a car, drive to each resort and park at the check in parking area (not the valet part!). Make sure you have your resort parking pass on the dash and tell the guard what you are doing, they let you right in. If you don't have a car you may have to just do the monorail resorts because the logistics would be too tough by bus.
