Shades of Green
Argh! I just learned that SOG's reopening has been delayed. Instead of opening on Dec. 15th, it is now scheduled to open on March 1st, 2004.
I currently have reservations over the holidays; I do not know what this means to me (yet). I hope that our dream trip isn't in jeopardy though.:hmmm BTW, if you want to read the press release, it is here.

I had read that this morning. Sorry that it is going to alter your plans. I would guess that they will be contacting you shortly, and offering to move you over to one of the Disney resorts for the same price. My guess is that it will be the Contemporary, but I don't know for sure. Maybe if you push hard enough, they will get you into the Poly or Beach Club or something. Let us know what happens.

I'm sorry that you're going to miss out on the new resort.
Of course I was kicking myself because I was missing the opening by a few days...

SOG Update (so far)
Well, I just finished speaking with a rep. at SOG. (I was on hold for 25 mins.) She told me that I'd be receiving a letter in the mail regarding the delay and my options. I asked that she tell me what the options were now since I'd waited so long on the phone anyway (and she said that some folks had already received their letters.)
Basically, we can cancel the reservation and receive a refund (something we could have done 30 days prior to our arrival anyway.), or we can keep the reservation for the same dates in 2004. or we will be placed RANDOMLY at either the Contemporary or Port Orleans Riverside for the dates we were supposed to be at SOG. I asked if we could request one over the other and she told me that it had already been assigned and I'll learn which one was selected for me when I receive the letter. Waaahh!:(

As long as they put you somewhere, it doesn't sound so bad -- unless you had a suite booked at Shades of Green? The room rate is the same SOG, but maybe w/ the added taxes. The Contempory Garden Wing rooms aren't that hot, so if you don't mind whether your category is "deluxe" or "moderate", the rooms ought to be pretty identical as the contemp wing rooms are on the small side and pretty sparatan and the pool is rather plain. It's basically the same as staying at Disney, with the Disney transporation and package drop off, even though you don't have to pay the Disney price (which is cool). If you want to upgrade your room, and it's availble, you can do it -- but you have to pay the difference between the SOG price you're paying and the list price for the room you want (so therefore you aren't getting any military discount).
But it is VERY obnoxious that the operator couldn't tell you which hotel they've stuck you at when it was already in a letter on its way to you in the mail! I think I'd be hypervenalating, not knowing like that, if it was me. Luckily our SOG reservations - if we decide to go - are for the first week of Dec so this won't affect our travel plans.

Maybe you cuold call the Contemporary and POFQ and find out if you have reservations there?
I have heard a lot of good things about SOG facilities and staff, but I cannot say the same for their reservation system. I would bring all of your confirmation letters with you just in case. We had some issues when we checked in with the Contemporary last time. Can't remember the details though, would have to ask the wife.

Well, I did receive my letter today. We have been assigned POR. I do not know much about POR (except that it used to be Dixie Landings and that it is due for refurbishment.) The second issue does concern me since we had planned to spend time relaxing and utilizing our rooms more than we ever have in the past.
Have any folks stayed at POR recently? I am planning to do research in my guidebooks and on the Internet to see what it is like. In fact, if I can fit it in, I may try to stop by while I am in WDW next week.

Made our reservations
I just learned of the SOG at disney (new military wife). I am happy about all of the money we are saving. We had reserved Doubletree Guest Suites in Downtown Disney, they had a really good rate ($95.00/night). If it weren't for the savings and being out-voted, by hubby and our 4 year old son, I would be tempted to remain at the Doubletree. But, they are just in love with being able to stay in the middle of the action and have the monorail right there. Now, for my SOG phone service experience....I requested reservations online for 09/01-07/03, and got a message saying that it would take 3 business days to receive confirmation. I called the next day, since I was curious about there being availability for my dates, and was told that they had plenty of available rooms, so I didn't worry. I check my email the next day, and GREAT!!! (so I thought), the email stated that they were booked for my dates and I was offered the All Stars Resort(if this were true, I'ld still be planning to stay at the Doubletree). However, I called the toll free number (stayed on hold for about 30min.) and inquired about availability. I didn't mention that I had just got an email saying they were booked, I just simply asked if my dates were available for the Contemporary Resort? Surprise, surprise they were available and so, I booked on the phone. After I completed my reservation, and made my deposit, I asked the rep. why I got an email, about 1 hour earlier, stating they were booked and the only thing available was the All Star Resort? She just sort of mummbled, that she didn't know and put me on hold. She came back on and told me that a certain number of rooms are available if you make reservation requests online (not many, though). If you call (and are willing to be on hold for 30 minutes or so) you are priority, so you will get the "held" rooms at the Contemporary Resort, if they are available, or you will be offered the opportunity to go on the wait list, if that is booked for your dates.......then, they will offer you another contracted hotel (comparable, though) at a deeeply, rated discount or the same price. So, YEAHHH!!! Hubby and my son still love me and they think, I just worked a miracle or something. All it took was a phone call!!
IF YOU CAN SEE THE EDGE, YOU HAVEN'T GONE FAR ENOUGH!!
