Charging to Room Card

I understand that when you check-in, you can have your room card used as a charge card if you wish, using one of your credit cards to back it up. Does this work for any eating place and gift shop in the world? I think it would come in very useful for meals and gifts, but cash for quick-eating stands or things like that.

Yes, you can use it anywhere on property. I think there are a couple of the non-Disney restaurants that don't accept it, but I am not sure which ones. I haven't had any problem using it anywhere, including most of the food carts.

You got it. You can even use it at non-Disney owned places like the Rainforest. As long as it is located on Disney property. Although I am not sure about some non-Disney places like the McDonald's and the Gas Stations.

Very handy! We charged evrything on our key for a couple of days and then just went to the front desk of our resort and paid it off with travellers checks.

The only place I was aware of where the card wasn't accepted, was the old wood carver shop in Frontierland. But now it is a hat shop. There may be some places within WDW that it still isn't accepted, but they are rare indeed.

what I like about this option is also the "express check-out" so you dont have to take any time out of your last day to go down to the lobby and check out. Last day I have bell service store our bags and we take off to which ever park. of course on the down side sometimes you dont realize how easy it is to spend that money when all you do is pull out your room key and hand it to them.

the carts do not take the card, the small carts that sell popcorn/cokes/ice cream ..those do not take them ..but any counter service or restuarant will take it your room key/park pass if you have set up for charging.

It's a great concept, but it's much to easy to forget that you are spending real money, which I'm sure is the idea behind the feature.:D :D

Yes, It does allow you to spend a lot more $. Also, be very careful not misplace or loose the key. I just read from the Passporter, that it's a good idea to write down the number on your ticket/pass so if you loose it, Disney can work their magic and cancel it out of the sytem, and sport you a new pass.
You never know, i guess it's worth the 2 minutes to do!
Den;)

Tink is right...the portable carts that sell ice cream or water & stuff don't take anything but cash. But I've never had an occasion where the room key card wasn't accepted anywhere else in WDW. And it's nice because even the kids can get one. I always made sure DD asked before she used it, but it gave her such a feeling of being grown-up when she was 12 & paying for her own stuff with plastic!!! It does, however, make it very easy to lose track of how much you've spent. I generally take all the receipts at the end of each day & run a total on them so I know how crazy I was that day & if I need to slow down the next. But then maybe that's just the accountant in me!!!

lol I have reciepts from as far back as 1992 I think. Between being able to have your purchases sent to your resort and using your card to pay for them .. its double easy to buy buy buy money bye bye *grin*. I know for a fact I would buy less if I had to tote it around the parks

We used our room cards for certain purchases so that we wouldnt spend alot more money than we wanted to.
We used it for all our meals and souviners and then just paid it off when we checked out. I used cash and a debit card at the end of our stay to pay everything off.
