AP Room Discounts?

I have a FTP booked for the end of September, but I am hearing about these great AP discounts. Are the discounts as great as they sound?

Since we are planning to go back next June, I am trying to decide if I am better off using an AP discount (I would have to buy the APs also) for the room and then have the passes for June already.

We are 2 adults and a 2yo.

What do you think?

The FTP are such a good deal, I doubt it would be worth the hassle to use an AP discount instead. In fact, Disney seems to have cut back on AP rates this year (along with a lot of other promotions) simply because of the FTP!

But if you are planning a second trip soon, the APs might be worth it for you. I was planning on going the AP route myself until the FTPs came along. It is doubtful I'll be able to plan another trip within the next year  so I decided the package was a better deal for me.

Did those ramblings make any sense?

Yes, if you can plan another trip, it is worth your while, the hotle savings, and the ticket expense for the next trip. We have AP's and try to plan around the expiration date.
Plus, there are some perks to the AP's, private lounges, pins, DISCOUNTS, previews, newsletter....and more!

Private lounges??

Private lounges??

Please fill me in on this one. We are going to buy and activate our tickets when we get down to Disney.

I found a listing of the restaurant lunch discounts at least.

Give me the scoop!

Thanks!!

Last summer Disney opened private passholder lounges in Epcot and Animal Kingdom. The AK lounge wasn't much to speak of, but the Epcot lounge was located upstairs in the offices of the Land Pavilion and was quite nice. It was a great place to get out of the heat, take a break and get a drink of cold water. There also was a small area where children could amuse themselves with toys, etc.

The two lounges were opened on a seasonal basis and Disney said they would close once the hot weather was over. AP's were encouraged, though, to send e-mails if they liked the lounge idea in hopes Disney would reopen them this summer.

Unfortunately, that hasn't happened. I inquired about them a couple of times earlier this summer and was told Disney didn't like where last year's lounges were located but couldn't find suitable alternative sites. The Epcot lounge was right in the middle of an office area and I can see where it likely disturbed employees to have guests trooping down the hall all day.

The lounges were nice while they lasted, though, and made you feel just a little bit more special. But, who knows, maybe they'll return one of these days?

Also waiting patiently for the AP rates to become available for us who do not live in Florida or Canada. Seems Disney is taking their sweet time in offering these special rates. I guess the old saying goes, "ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT"!!!!
:hmmm JOANN:)

The lounges were great. We popped into the EPCOT lounge, and felt like we became VIP's. It started by pushing a select combination of numbers in the elevator, and bam, our own private area overlooking the entire pavillion and ride. Very plush, free beverages, nice service, and to top it off, seeing as we are right above the character dining, Chip and Dale came up. We were the only family in there, my son had his own private pillow fight (pillows from the couch's) with Chip and Dale. What a photo fest that was. The AK lounge was like an empty resturant...yawn.

To bad they seem to "shelve" some of our perks.

I will miss our PS at the lounge:(

I too loved the lounge in Epcot. After a long day of walking, my DW was sitting on the couch slowly starting to drop off to sleep. That's when Chip and Dale arrived.

Of course, I couldn't resist. I motioned for Dale to come over and quietly explained that he should sit down on the couch right next to her. Let me tell you, when her eyes opened, I thought she was going to jump out of her skin. The moment was priceless and the interaction with the characters was truely a time that we will never forget. She wasn't too happy with me for a short while after that....not too sure why??

I haven't heard anything, but given Disney's recent history, I wouldn't expect anything for several more weeks - they just released the AP rates through Oct 1. Checking in before that time and you're all set. Oct 2 and beyond, I wouldn't be surprised to see them come out towards the end of August, beginning of September.
