5 in a room options ?

Hi all

Wondering what all my resort options are for 5 in a room. We were all set for CBR untill I remembered the 5 people in a room issues that Disney resorts have.
So, its 5 of us the youngest being 3. We really wanted to go a bit more budget minded this time, but will look into all our options.

Thanks!!

Hey BuzzLightyear.......

I just so happened to have my brochure from my planning video here at the computer so I looked it up. Here are the options:

Port Orleans Riverside
Boardwalk Inn
Contemporary
Polynesian
Grand Floridian
Beach & Yacht Club
and of course the Home Away from Home Resorts

Can someone tell me how strict this policy is? We have 5 but the 17-month-old will tuck nicely away in one of the beds with big people. I also noticed that Disney offers rollaways for $15 per night.

I think its interesting that there is only one mod option and the rest are deluxe. They kind of have you where they want you, huh? :)

The moderates and values sleep 4 persons plus a child under 3. So Anne, if the 17 month old is part of your 5, you are ok anywhere.

The trundle at POR costs an extra $15 per night.

Wilderness Lodge offers a deluxe room that very nicely sleeps 6.

Animal Kingdom Lodge's deluxe rooms sleep 5.

Ft Wilderness Cabins sleep 6.

At the Home Away from Home DVC Resorts, 5 people would need to go into a 2 bedroom villa, which is pricey. But you are getting basically an apartment! I think Boardwalk Villas have some studios with a daybed that sleep 5, but are hard to come by.

Many people find getting 2 connecting rooms at the All-Stars a convenient solution. And you get 2 baths with this arrangement!

Thanks for the info, jmouse! I really appreciate it and love the answer, of course! :laugh But as these kids get older, it will definitely become a concern for us...

Three words...Fort Wilderness Cabins.

Check the prices verses what you get. Add the possibilities and there is only one way to go if money matters.

Would the three-year-old like "camping out" on the hotel room floor? Maybe that way you can get away w/ 5 in the room.

up till a little over 2 our DGD's slept in Cribs which were free at the moderate resorts.. also now days with the fancy folding cribs and such you could easily bring your own.

as for the youngest being three ..which end of 3 .. I mean if just a few months after turning three ..or really a month or two away from being 4 .. ya know what I mean .. could ya fudge a bit on the age *grin* .. ok no one boo me :) and the same could apply as above .. bringing one of those folding little things that are so neat.. how come the best baby stuff comes out long after I have babies .. not that I want any!!! oh heavens .. I am still basking in the glow of not having to tote daiper bags or push strollers!!!

oh and we have done the 2 rooms at All Stars resorts too ..not a bad deal, really.

One thing to remember (we've encountered :hmmm ) Disney charges a fee per extra adult per night, if there more than two adults staying in one room. You may not have this problem, but it might sway you to get two rooms at the value resorts.

Me,mom, dd14, ds10 and dd friend15 will be at CBR this next week for 9 days. CBR allowed us the use of a rollaway which is very unlikely in most cases. We were not asked to go to another resort to accomondate the 5 of us since my ressies were made during the time dh and I were there in June and we didn't add dd friend until 2 weeks ago.

"Pack and play" cribs are also available ...free. We never had any problems. This year were off to the cabins, which is like a vacation in a vacation. I reccommend trying them in the future.

I don't want to sound too poo-ish but I am always amazed at how poor Disney has planned :( for a family of 5 which is very common.

Even the DVC does not address this issue for any reasonable cost.

Really, this is about the worst complaint I have about WDW.:madmad :madmad They better get with the program or more and more people are going to be forced off-site.

The "lack of planning" by Disney for 5 person parties has not affected their occupancy rate. WDW enjoys a high occupancy rate when compared to the rest of the hospitality industry. And if you really consider accomodations at WDW, there are plenty of accomodations that fit parties of 5. As far as reasonable cost, anytime your party size increases, your cost increases, no matter if you are going to a ballgame, amusement park, buying a larger car, house, etc. The hospitality industry as a whole uses a party of 4 as a basis for the majority of rooms. Disney is no different.

Just my 2 cents.

JMouse, points well taken. Believe me, I rarely through stones at Mickey. This year will be 4 years straight that we have gone.

However, Disney is suppose to be ALL about family. A significant part of the hospitality industry is driven by business travel in which case it is difficult to cost effective make a room that sleeps one and also five.

Also I completely disagree that there are many options for parties of five that are very cost effective. The majority of such hotels are expensive deluxe hotels ($300+ a night seems pretty costly to me). Why would it have been difficult to make 1/2 the rooms at Pop Century fit a family of 5 for an additional 20% in room charge?

I think I am not alone in this as I have read many threads about people stuck in this situation.

I guess I expect more from Disney.:hmmm

I understand where you are coming from, skwak. However, even other family destinations use a family of 4 as their basis. I don't know the percentage of business travelers vs. vacation travelers, but if the hospitality business used the business traveler as their main basis, wouldn't most rooms be set up for one person?

I think getting two rooms at the All-Stars is pretty cost effective as the cost is less than a deluxe hotel and it gives you two bathrooms.

I think the off-site hotel that best handles families of 5 and 6 is the Holiday Inn Family Suites. Woldn't it be great if Disney built a resort based on HIFS's premise? I know it would be immensely popular. But the cost would probably be higher than a moderate and closer to a deluxe at their discounted rates.

The value resorts' rooms just aren't big enough to put 5 persons in them. Depending on the ages of the people in the party, it is sometimes a tight fit to have more than 2 people in those rooms! Maybe the answer is to retrofit more of the moderates to include the trundle bed as the Bayou buildings at POR have.
