I was wondering about tipping the concierge staff (we're hoping to do Poly concierge in Jan) -- I don't mean the usual folks you tip (bellboy, maid), but the special concierge staff. Are tips routine or just for special services? any guidelines? thanks.

With all of the work that these people do,I think it's a great idea. I think something along the lines of 25 dollars or so would be good.

We stayed at the Poly concierge Sept. 2002 and we tipped: the bellhop $2 per bag, housekeeping $2 daily, turndown service $1 per day (our turndown & housekeeper was the same person) and beyond that we did not tip any other people there. The lounge has many people working, clearing tables, setting out food etc... it would be difficult to tip one person and IMO it isn't necessary to tip them all. The food is set out buffet style so it is help yourself and no need for a server. It is usually quite busy and as soon as one person left a table some was waiting in the shadows to grab it. Money left on tables would get lost I'm sure. The staff that is available in the lobby area are there to help with arranging PS's etc. and we never recieved help from just one person in particular. They work as a team there. We never tipped them nor did I see anyone else doing so. I suppose if you received extra assistance for a particular need it would be appreciated but otherwise I'd spend your $$ elsewhere.
