New WDW Discounts coming!

Mousesavers is reporting the folling:
Quote:
Coming on Tuesday -- discounted Disney World packages covering most nights 11/10/03 - 2/11/04! (Excludes stays beginning 11/25/03 - 11/27/03 and 12/27/03 - 1/1/04.)
This is great news for those who are thinking about visiting WDW in between November and February. Hopefully, this will be a repeat of the Fairy Tale package!

From what I have seen, this vacation package is no different from other packages that have been offered from time to time. The rates start at $99 per adult per night, based on double occupancy for a value resort. That would make the package cost $594 for 2 adults for 3 nights at a value resort. If you consider the value resort's rack rate is $77 per night, that makes the tickets (4 days worth of UPH) $334 for 2 adults. This is a savings of $55.59 per adult. Looking at it another way, the 4D/3N cost of an Unlimited Park Hopper for two adults is $445.18. That leaves $148.82 as the portion of the package for the room. That comes out to $49.60 per night, close to what we usually see for room only discounts for the value resorts at that time of year. Not such an extraordinary deal.

And for those who have military tickets, annual passes, or other tickets, they may see Disney deciding that the only discounts people will see are in these packages, leaving them out in the cold. Not a good deal for them either.

If they continue to not have deals for people who already have annual passes, they are going to anger a significant part of their customer base!!!:( :( :(

I could not agree with you more. DH, one of our DD's and myself will be going in Nov., and no annual pass discounts yet. I did book the CSR , and used my AAA card for a discount, not as good as AP's , so hope they come out , maybe like "yesterday". Wouldn't that be great!!!! JOANN

Can you typically apply the new discount to packages that have already been booked?

Just curious. I am an AP holder and was wondering how much of a discount does AAA get? Is it worth it?

Agreed. We are intending renewing our APs in September (as we have 2 trips planned within the next 12 months, Dec03 & May04) not only for the saving in renewing over buying new, but mainly for the discounts that possibly would come our way when the traditional AP discounts are announced.

If Disney go ahead and cancel AP future discounts, and instead concentrate on these pre-packaged affairs, then they will anger a significant portion of their fan base.

Packaging (or enforcing if you like) the purchase of park tickets with the hotel room is not desirable for those that do not want/need it. Our main reason for going twice in the one year (all the way from Scotland) is that we have APs already - had we not, then we would have likely planned different trips.

Given that on any Disney trip we spend at least 2 weeks staying on Disney property, eating at Disney restaurants, buying Disney souveniers, this all adds up to a significant amount of money that we could be spending elsewhere. It was our APs that kept us Disney-bound...hmm, I know that Arizona is nice in December...

Does anyone else feel that Disney may end up ignoring and alienating their 'bread and butter' fan base?

Maybe we're worrying too soon...does anyone remember the about-face that Disney were 'forced' to do on the recent Priority Seating fiasco? ;)
