POR or Allstars

Hi all, remember me? I'm still around, always reading, but haven't had much time for posting these days.

Anyways, looks like we need to be real CHEAP on our next trip to Disney. I was wondering what you would do & why.

I have (5) people in my family, so my options would be Port Orleans with a trundel bed or (2) rooms at one of the All Stars.

Thanks in advance!!!!

POR was our choice for a family of 5 before the fairy tale package came out. The grounds look beautiful, the pool great, I had read good things about the food court, there was a sit down restaraunt in the hotel and a boat to DtD. My kids are still small so having personal space needs of teens wasn't an issue yet.

Let us know what you discover in your research as I am sure if we ever go again, POR will be our main option on site.

POR would be my choice. Even with the trundle bed, the rooms are a good size.

POR hands down. We stayed at POR and ASSports. While both are nice, POR has a much nicer feel to it. The room might be tight with 5 but how much time do you actually spend inside the room? ;)

POR - the food court & sit-down are a plus, they have nice pools and you can take the boat to DTD and the MK (at least you could when we stayed there). And the rooms are a nice size, even with 5 people.

I'd recommend POR, if for no other reason that the buses. While they do run every 20 minutes or so, by the time they get to ASSports, they are usually full or nearly there--which means you'll end up waiting longer. Of course, this is only my opinion, and I'm sure it's different whenever you're there during "off peak" times...

One more thing (sorry!): Have you considered the Wilderness cabins? They're supposed to hold "larger" families fairly easily. There's another thread going on that discusses them. It appears that families of 6 are easily accomodated...

Hopefully, this will work, but here's the link:

I say stay at the All-Stars,because they are great resorts. Also, they are cheaper than the moderates, and with the extra money you save, you can buy more souvenirs.

Hotel-wise, it would be POR hands down. BUT I think you should consider how you'd divide your group up into the two rooms at All Stars. Would snoring keep someone awake that two rooms would fix? Does someone need to go to bed very early or enjoy staying up very late that would work w/ two rooms but would be an inconveince to everyone else if you were in one room? Although it's true that you aren't going to spend much time at your resort, you DO have to sleep there. And, as simple as it sounds, if you haven't slept well you can't enjoy the park. I have yet to be able to get through without feeling like a zombie and not being able to remember as much as I'd like... :( Anyway, please stop to consider the sleeping needs of your party as well as the amenities of the two resorts.

I think that Amneris makes a good point that I didn't consider.:hmmm

As much as I prefer POR, I guess it does matter what the composition of your group is.

Are the prices for two rooms at AS comparable to one at POR? I loved POR when we stayed there. I would vote moderate over value...just MHO.

Depending on the season, I think two rooms at AStars would be approximately 25% more (about $50) than POR per night.
