Charging to room

Good day all! I hope that everyone is having a magical time anticipating their next visit to the world and while I am in the midst of planning my next trip I was wondering about the rules of "charging to the room". I understand the benefits of doing so but I'm a bit fuzzy about what happens and when. Upon arrival I can leave an imprint of my cc for room charges...ok I get that but at what point is my card actually charged? What about a spending limit do I set that at check in or is is preset for me? Is the entire amount of your purchase charged at the end of your stay or is it done daily? What if I need to return something do I use the room key for this as well?

:dazed Can someone please help me! Thanks.

I am not sure at what point your CC is actually charged. I know that on check out day you will have an envelope hung on your door that is "express check out" which means you dont have to come down to the lobby and check out. I went and used my debit card to take the room charges off my CC on our check out day. I think that they submit the charges to your CC as they get them. Your CC company sets the limit I believe ..sorta like your availible cash advance limit you may have. our limit on the CC I used was set at $1,000.00.
hope this helps and if not someone else has better answers/explainations :)

I went and got my express check out paper and it shows each charge, date and time and then the total. under each charge is the card number ..thats why I am saying they charge the card for each .. I wanted to double check this .
as extra info on this there is a number here for Billing Questions
407 828 5630 :)

the charges are all in one column (spelling?) and then only the final payment in the other under Payments/Credits.

Thanks Tink I called and this is what I found out....

upon check in I can leave the image of my cc and they will authorize a small amount charge (just to verify that the card is good) this is true for guests whose rooms were prepaid thru a package. The entire charge for my stay will be charge to cc at the end of the stay. Each resort has a preset limit for the length of your stay but if you reach that limit before the end of your stay then they will go ahead and charge the cc and start you over with that preset limit so you can continue to charge with your room key.

Here is are the preset limits by resort category:

Value: $500
Moderate: $1000
Deluxe: $1500

Sorry didn't get the others...thanks again Tinkerbell!!!

Disney will set a limit on our charging to your room, say $1,000. When the limit is reached, they will bill your credit card that amount, and reset your account. I have never had that happen though, they have always just charged me once, when I checked out of the room, for the full amount of the money that I had charged.

Now, how do I get the Disney Club discounts applied to that?

mickey that's a good question. I was planning on doing some serious shopping at downtown disney. I thought I could just show my dc card at the time of purchase and receive my discount.

I wasn't charged until the end of my stay. Our E-Ride tickets and BBQ tickets were posted to our CC the day we bought them but the rest was posted to our card after check out. Even though we went over the limit we had just one charge on our CC when our bill came .

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the limit is set by the resort. We had $1,500 limit on an empty carn with a $10,000 limit.

When you check-in, any amount for your room reservation is charged to your card then. They then take a card for resort purchases using your resort id, subject to the limits kphil89 indicated. If you reach your limit, they process the charge and then restart your charge limit. Any tickets or similiar items bought at Guest Services is charged right away.

Sorry, I was just joking!

When you do any shopping at Disney, show your DC card. I think some of the stores have a limit (you have to purchase $50 worth of stuff or more to qualify). The discount will be applied right there in the store, and the correct amount will show up on your room statement.

I highly recommend charging to your card. When we arrived, we were told that we could charge up to 1500.00 before they actually charged the card. That being said, they do put a hold on your card for that amount even though it's not charged.

Anyway, using the card was so easy and convenient, and a great way to keep track of your spending. We received a printout everyday of the previous days spending. Also we didn't have to mess around with cash. You will need cash for some snack and ice cream stands though. I went into WDW with $100.00 cash for five of us for eight days. I barely used half of it. And with using the cards and printouts to manage our money, I ended up spending about 25% less than I had budgeted for the trip. That's a lot of money in DisneySpeak!!

Just my two cents.

Were the printouts provided automatically each day, or did you have to request the printouts of each day's spending upon check-in or did you have to go the desk each day?

Thanks!

We went to the desk each day on our way to the parks, or the previous evening after we returned.

It was a piece of cake!
