Need balcony and morning coffee. Advice please
hi all. first real trip to WDW. Even though my budget is not deluxe, I'm willing to splurge to make the trip the best possible. can you advise me on where to stay? I need a blacony or patio.. Love to sit ouside room on downtimes or with morning coffee. Want to make sure It's not one of those "Privacy Balconies" where you can't see while sitting. Perhaps people watching would be fun at the Boardwalk Inn?
GOTTA have morning coffee either by room service or REAL close by before I get dressed and face the world. Coffee drinkers please let me know the easiest way to get to some. We are 2 single adults..looking for fun but some R&R too. but at the same time I like to nearby to some activity..nothing too sedate. Thanks! PS please go easy on the abbreviations. |

RE: Morning Coffee...
...I'll leave the question about balconies to some of the more seasoned resort visitors.
As far as morning coffee, this I can relate to. ![]() Request a coffee maker (no charge) from housekeeping and brew your own. We brought enough filter packs for the length of our stay & we were good to go.

Welcome to DisneyCentral. Reading your requirements, I would look for a room at one of the EPCOT resorts. The Boardwalk is a fun area, and is pretty lively at night. The resorts are great, and all have a balcony. The Beach and Yacht Club have private balconies, but only on the first floor, so just request a higher floor. The Boardwalk Inn is great, and just get a standard view room rather than water view. You will have a view of EPCOT and some nice gardens, and you won't have the noise of the Boardwalk.

I second the suggestion of the EPCOT resort area. You can't beat it for convenience (walk to EPCOT, walk to MGM, walk to Boardwalk). Between EPCOT and the BW, your evening activities are all close by. We (2 adults) stayed at the YC in 2001 and had a balcony with a great view of the lagoon and Boardwalk. In January, we'll try the BC. I believe that the YC & BC have coffee makers, but things may have changed in 3 years. They're pricey, but the Winter Package softens the blow. A great location is worth the cost, IMO.

Balcony/coffee
I suggest the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The coffe pot is in the room and while you sit on the balcony you can watch the animals roam the range! I have stayed there 3 times and loved each time more than the last. Any questions just ask. Have a Magical day! Joe:)

I would suggest either BW area or you may want to go for the Poly.
We have stayed at both and had a great time. The BW is area is great for people watching and being near EPCOT. We had a standard view, but could still see EPCOT. We did the Poly this past June, and we had a garden view, but our balcony overlooked the laggon and marina. We could see the contemporary resort and the monorail as it exited the Contemporary. However the room was quiet and not a lot of foot traffic.

We stayed at AKL last May and sitting out on the balcony watching the animals every morning while sipping a cup of coffee was just awesome, I absolutely love this place and highly recommend it. The rooms don't automatically come with a coffee maker but just request one at check-in and they will have it to your room within about 5 minutes. :D Please let us know where you decide to stay.

Go for the BoardWalk Inn! We have stayed there twice and have never been disappointed. The balconies on all the rooms, both standard and water view, are terrific... Simply white metal posts. The balconies are spacious with two chairs and a small table. Coffee is within reach. The Bell Vue room offers continental breakfast foods and COFFEE. Just down on the BoardWalk is the BoardWalk Bakery and Joe's. Joe's offers specialty coffees, everywhere else just has the regular and unleaded versions. Plus, room service is available...and I believe that the maids may be able to get you an in-room coffee maker, if you can't quite make it down the elevator.:p
The best thing about the BoardWalk is being able to walk to Epcot and the Disney Studios. One of my favorite things in all of WDW is the stroll from BWI through a deserted World Showcase first thing in the morning. Happy planning!

I have to say the Animal Kingdom Lodge is awesome!!!! I don't even care for animals that much, but sitting on the balcony and watching Girraffes is very cool!!!! and very relaxing. Goes great with morning coffee.

We really enjoyed our tower room at Contemporary. We were about 1/2 way up overlooking the lake (not the Magic Kingdom side). It was very beautiful.

We love the Boardwalk. You can request a room looking out over the boardwalk which is great but can be noisy, or request one looking out over the courtyard. Either one is great in my book. You can also get coffee (lattes, too) at the Boardwalk bakery. Or request a coffee maker in your room.
If you decide to go with AKL, make sure you request a savannah view if you want to have coffee with the animals. And welcome to DC lbi! You'll love it here. We're always full of advice!

The Deluxe rooms are the only ones with balcony's, Moderate rooms are Motel style so your balcony would be in a common area outside of your room. Since you are on somewhat of a budget, have you considered the Swan and the Dolphin. They may have better rates than the other Deluxe Resorts. Also, the Wilderness Lodge (a Deluxe Resort) has some of the lowest rates. Their balconies are either facing the woods, or the inner court (which has a little river, water falls, and pool at the bottom). It depends on how much of a Disney Theme you want. The night life is either at the Boardwalk area or Downtown Disney. As far as coffee goes, I too like to have mine before I even leave the room. If you aren't able to get a coffee-maker in your room (Swan and Dolphin would come with these standard I believe), then you could bring some instant coffee with you. I always carry a couple of packets of the instant coffee that looks like a tea bag in my luggage just in case.....this works for me because I don't like really hot coffee so using hot tap water is fine...I know lots of people like their coffee really hot, so that would not be an option. There are lots of options.

thank you all
Thanks all for your thoughtful advice. Makes me feel very welcome here. From the feedback I think Boardwalk may be for us. We will only be there 4 nights I think I will feel more relaxed if I'm close to the action even while I'm sitting on the sidelines. Don't wanna feel like I'm "missing something"!
Funny thing about staying at Boardwalk is..I work in Atlantic City NJ!! Guess it will be home away from home! Coffeemaker in the room..great solution. Also like the idea that good coffee and bakery are nearby. Thanks For anyone browsing the boards for ideas like I did, I want to mention the virtues of a balcony,if your budget will allow. While planning a trip to Belize a board member's comments reminded me of how "cooped up" a regular room can be.. How I had to close the heavy curtains and sit in the dark on my previous vacations for any privacy if the windows face a common walkway. Relaxing became a dark isolation. It changed my decision on rooms and the balcony room became a major part of my vacation enjoyment, rather than just a place to change clothes and sleep. Even tho my budget is in the "modest means" category, the night and day difference has me more than willing to pay a room rate that I previously would NEVER have considered. Thanks all again. I will be back for more help and advice..you guys are great! |
