I like the idea of the pop culture items like the Big Wheel. But I was told there is a section where it is just words like "Duh". From what I hear it is not up to Disney par. Too bad.

That said, Disney needs this hotel to open so that more people can afford to stay on site, for sure. :)

Just curious, but why is the tax rate different?

Hmmm, hate to bust bubbles, but Disney lists Pop Century and all the value resorts at the same price. We have reservations at Pop Century when it opens and its the same rate as the other value hotels, $77 a night for standard rooms. Also, the tax rate currently is 10.7% (basically 11%) for their resorts, as stated on their web site. Their are a couple of dates where you can save $0.50 a night at Pop Century for some reason when making reservations on line. Waiting to hear if there are going to be any pass holder specials when it opens but right now they are saying "no".

:)

The 1990's building is covered by phrases like "Duh" and "Whazzup?" with gigantic cell phones. I suppose it fits with the theme...

They should have left off the words and stuck with known icons. Was the 90's that dull that they had to use sayings like that? Sorry, I don't care for that part of it. The rest of the resort sounds interesting though. I also checked out the prices (as I stated earlier in this post) and Pop Century is the same price as the other value resorts.

I believe it depends which county the resort is in. Different counties have different hotel tax and WDW is in two different counties.

We had to call Disney back and talk to them about the taxes and the county thing. They said they are in Orange and Ocala Counties and the hotel tax in Orange is 11 1/2% and in Ocala it is 12%. There are no price differences between the Pop Century and other value resorts other than the taxes. Pop Century lies in Orange County and the All Stars lie in Ocala so you get a 0.5% difference in tax which is why online it does show a slight difference in final price between the two hotels. It was funny because they wanted to know where the rumors were coming from about there was some big difference in price. Bet they get these questions often.

:)

Oh, thank you!! I worried after I posted that that I was wrong. I hate to give out incorrect information.

Whoa, that's weird about the whole taxes thing!! :weird:

Anywayz...has anyone seen a map, or happen to know, which "phase" is going to be closest to the lobby/food court at Pop Century? From what I've heard, it's set up more like CSR (around a lake) rather than the layout of the All-Stars. I don't know which section would be preferable...:hmmm

I'm looking at my passporter here and they have a map. The closest buildings are 1960's both building #4 and #5, 1950's building #3 and 1970's building #10. Building #6 in the 1970's and Building #1 in the 1950's arent that far, but the ones that look the farthest away are All the the building in the 1980's and 1990's and building #2 in the 1950 is pretty far away too. Hope this helps.
