Pop Century Sneak Preview

WDW gave journalists a sneak preview Friday (9/5) of the new Pop Century resort scheduled to open in December. The first phase of the resort is nearly complete and is themed to cover the period from the 1950s to the 1990s. The second phase will cover the 1900s to the 1940s.

Here's a link to the Orlando newspaper's article about the preview. I thought one of the most interesting pieces of information in the article is that Pop Century will bring the number of rooms on Disney property to almost 25,000. That's a pretty staggering number.

I've got a couple of Pop Century photos that I'll add to this post when I get a chance.

Any other pictures or info on Pop Century. We are staying there in Dec. and I would love to see some more photos, and a map of the resort. Any idea when this kind of info will be released?:)

Looks like a fun place to stay. After I get my first taste of staying on property I probably will never be happy with off again. This is really the first of the ecomony resort themes that looks really cool to me, probably since it suits my era. Thanks again Park Hopper for all the cool info.

Cool Photos. This hotel was highly considered for my January trip. My DD loves the larger than life icons all over as she loved both of the All Star resorts we stayed in. I just thought it would be a little crowded and still working out glitches in January due to the newness and I got a great deal on AKL. This is definately a place I intend to check out sooner or later. Thanks for the pictures and the info.

LRTJS, I stayed off property for years until a trip about six summers ago...there is nothing like staying on property! I won't go to WDW unless I'm on property now!

Pop Century looks pretty cool. I'm curious to know if there are any major differences between this and the other values. Also the Twinkie tiramisu from the news article sounds pretty good.

Pop Century supposedly will have the lowest base room rate of any of Disney's value resorts, $77 per night.

Pop Century's rates are the same as all the All Star's resorts. $77 is the price for Value Resorts at Value season or off-season. That's the starting bottom rate. It goes up from there. Apparently the popularity of the three all-stars got Disney to jump into action and build another Value resort. All in all the resort have the same ammentities (sp) and such. They are great hotels for families or for people not wanting to spend a lot on hotels. I have stayed at the All Stars twice (music and movies) and loved both of them. I hope this brings more families on a budget to on-site accomidations. God my spelling is horrible today. Sorry all...

From what I've read, it's cheaper because the tax rate at Pop Century is 11%, and All Stars is 15%.
