Upgrade stradegy

As some of you may know, I downgraded from a savannah view to a standard in order to afford an extra night at AKL. I really want to try for an upgrade. Anyone want to share their stradegy? I have heard that not sending a room request and waiting until you get there is the best bet. Is this true?

I've read somewhere that at AKL there are so few "standard" rooms that it's pretty easy to upgrade so long as it's not full. Since you're going in off season, hopefully you'll get one!!

I think what you're supposed to do is fax the request a couple of days prior to your arrival. Then when you check in also ask.

You could do a really cute little poem about seeing the animals too, to kind of grab their attention.

I sent a very nice fax about 5 days before my reservation asking for an upgrade and I got one from standard to pool room. I would go with a nice letter before going.

Ok! i will do the letter/fax thing for sure then. I wanted to , but was afraid to taint my chances.

Lauren - I didn't realize that there weren't many standard rooms at the AKL. My research skills are slipping I think. Thanks for the crossed fingers.

When I get a decent letter together, is it ok for me to run it by you guys? I'm nervous about asking for too much.

Good to know - thanks for the info! I was sort of hoping (and I know this is a lot to ask so I'm certainly not expecting it) to ask for an upgrade from a 1 bdrm to a 2 on our trip. If we got it, great, if not no big deal.

How about something on the lines of your Daughter and you are coming for a "wild time" at WDW and would love to see some wild animals from your balcony? You can "tweak" it up a little, if you could get it to rhyme or something?

I bet even if you don't come up with something "original" just a nice letter asking nicely will do, if they have it available. I think they just want to make you happy, and if they have it they will give it to you.

Let us know what you decide to do!! I'll let you know if I come up with any other ideas.

Thanks Lauren. I will have something composed by the end of the weekend. I have three days off with nothing really planned, so there will be plenty of time to think about it. Thanks for the suggestion..it was a good one.

Dana, I think sending a request by fax is the best idea like everyone else has said. Last time (and first time) we stayed at the AKL we already had a deluxe savannah view room but I pushed my mom to ask for an upgrade to Concierge at check-in, the CM told us the hotel was completely booked. He told us if we had sent a request a few weeks earlier we might have gotten it,:cry: lol. The AKL is beautiful!!! You'll love it!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I haven't come up with a letter yet. It's been a hectic weekend. My family gave me a surprise party for my 30th birthday. It was really nice. I drank way too much and am just starting to feel better after a horrible morning.,,,,I don't remember ever getting hung over like this. Any way, I will work on it maybe tonight or tomorrow.

HAHAHA...it's AGE, girl!!! I just turned 31, so I know exactly what you mean when you say you don't remember getting hung over like that! I can't drink AT ALL anymore...and forget about doing shots or drinking wine! I would be knocked on my butt sooooo fast!!!!!!! :dazed

Actually, I went to Atlantic City a few weeks ago and I drank Coors Light beer all night long (into the wee hours of the morning...5:30am to be exact! :whistle: ) and I was so scared of how I was going to feel the next day! I had to drive home so I was nervous! :dazed But I felt FINE and I could not believe it! I haven't drank like that since about a year before I had my son...so that was Summer 2000!!!!

Glad you had fun, that is such a great surprise! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Welcome to the 30's! :laugh

Okay...sO I am only staying at the ALL Star Sports but is there a chance that I could get upgraded to a room closer to the food court if I ask...? IS that a possible upgrade? Also, I am going on Christmas so will it be too booked to matter?:nervous
