Suggestions Please (be nice now!!!)
If all you nice people are still talking to me, help me out here. Last week, after waiting to pounce on it, I got great rates from southwest airlines (promo rates) for our April trip. But, I kind of panicked, knowing that these rates can vanish right in front of your eyes. The number of days started at just a week vaction, but I could not get the promo rates with those days, so I kept poking around with a day in front of the trip and a day in back of it and now we have a twelve day!! Aye Carumba!!! Myself and the boys don't mind that at all, but Momma is still shaking her head. So, now we need a place to stay for two days in front. April 17th thru April 24th we are at the new Shades of Green, and then we need a place to stay for two more days. On site? Off site? Let me hear your thoughts. Thank You all you nice people. :dazed :dazed :dazed

I agree with Tiggerlover, it really depends on how much you want to spend. There are some wonderful off site hotels that you can get some great deals on. You can read comments on off site hotels at www.mouseplanet.com they are grouped according to location.

franco, I booked an SOG stay with my Dad in August and it was very difficult. It was rather 'last minute' in their eyes, so I can understand their viewpoint, but the lead times involved with booking and changing dates was just, well difficult. :D
Are you considering spending all that time at Disney, or are you looking to add a couple of days at Universal? If so, put those at the beginning of the trip and stay over at one of the Universal resorts, then transfer over?

We have this situation coming up in January. One night in between WDW and the cruise. Because I've always been curious about the resorts at Downtown Disney, I thought I would look into them. Through Mousesavers.com I booked a standard room at the Hotel Royal Plaza right across from the Marketplace, for $69.00 per night. The pics of it look pretty nice. You might want to try that. Being an official Downtown Resort, I'm pretty sure we won't have any bad surprises.

I'm assuming you can't extend your stay at SOG (because if you can extend your stay there that is what I would suggest). Do you have any points on your credit cards? We have priority club points on one of our cards which is Holiday Inn and other Six Continents hotels. We are using them to stay at Holiday Inn the night before our cruise. Check into the points program offered by your credit card companies. Good luck!

Franco-
As a couple of other people have asked-are you going anywhere offsite? For our trip in September, we flew into Orlando, and then drove 1 1/2 hrs to Tampa and went to Busch Gardens for 2 days. That was definitly enough time to do that park, if you like coasters, they have some GREAT ones. Also recommend doing the Serengeti Safari- we were able to stay at a Baymont suites and rooms for $49 a nite-it was 2 minutes from the park. Let us know what you decide, if you do decide to do BG and want any info-let me know. Lauren Good-luck, what a horrible dilemma you are in;) :laugh |

Oh Franco.....we aren't angry with you. That was just a debate on the strollers at WDW. Never was it an arguement. Here's my thoughts on your issue at hand. Why not just stay at one of the All Star resorts for 2 nights. Why leave property? They are great little resorts and it may be tight fitting, but it's only for two nights. I have stayed at both the music and movies and enjoyed them both. The movies is newer and your family will enjoy it. It's a fun place.

Update on suggestions
On extending our stay at SOG, I am on a waiting list for that to happen, it is a long shot but it did happen to us in October, I was called and asked if I wanted and upgrade, I guess I will have to wait. So for the first two days of the trip we will start at the Hard Rock Hotel and that other park. I guess you need a minimum of three nights at any WDW resorts, right? In that case, I will be looking at hotels around the DTD area. We have stayed at the All-Stars (first trip) and they were fine. Second trip was at Caribbean and fine again other than being to big. Last trip was Contempary with SOG and we like that alot. So any thoughts on what off site hotels? I have been looking and they are not bad money wise, do some of them measure up to on site places? Comments please from all you pros out there. Thank You kindly!! :D :D :D

Since you are doing that other park at the beginning of your trip, I would suggest you try Animal Kingdom Lodge after your Shades of Green stay. There are usually some good discounts for AKL. And it is a great hotel to enjoy in itself.
WDW hotels do not require a 3 day minimum unless you are buying a package with tickets or staying on a holiday weekend. |
