SOG taking the rest of my hair!!!!

Over the last few weeks I have been getting nervous about thier opening. I have seen gloom and doom on another site about them being on time for it's opening, and I have called twice and have been assured that the will make that date. Our dates are April 17th -April 24th. Are the SOG operators giving me the "offical line"? What if anything will they offer us if they do not open on time? Our plans are two days at Hard Rock Hotel followed (hopefully) by seven days at SOG ending with two days at POR. Are they obligated to put us somewhere? What do you nice folks think? I thank you for your comments. :nervous :nervous :nervous :nervous :nervous

Franco-

I am sure that they will be open if they say they will. Disney has a way of making things "happen"

If they are not open, I'm sure you will receive an offer to move to another resort. Last year when they closed CBR for renovations, we got upgraded to AKL, and POly for $10. more a night& we had already got a GREAT deal at CBR. They also offered us POR or CSR for the same price, if you don't want to pay more.

I know how stressful it is to think that you may not have a place to stay, but you will.

Happy Holidays, let us know how it works out.

Last May when they closed POFQ for renovations, they offered us WL for only $10 more per night. It worked out awesomely!! :) I'm sure if something happens and they can't open on time, they will make good on your ressie.

I agree that Disney will make sure that you have a room some place on WDW property and that you may even have a chance at an upgrade :)

Don't worry! I have no doubts that Disney will take care of you. If it is not open I feel certain you will be offered an upgrade, and that wouldn't be bad at all.:D

I made ressies with SOG in Feb 03 for our stay Jan 04. Then about June I received a letter from SOG saying they were not going to be finished with the renovations until later in the year! BUT, they did put us in the Contemporary for the same price (except they have to charge tax there). So, even if they aren't finished with the renovations, I am sure they will accomodate you. I was really looking forward to staying in one of the nice new rooms  Oh well, can't win 'em all. At least we are on the monorail and within walking distance of MK :D
Hope this eases your worries a bit

Franco -

On my last trip in 2002 my DD and I were suppose to stay at the CBR. Two months before my fully paid for trip, they closed the resort for renovations. I was placed in the WL (for free). You will have somewhere to stay...I promise. Relax. All will be well.

Another don't worry for you Franco54. If they are not open, they will find a place for you. Probably Contemporary North Garden wing which we liked when SOG put us there last year.

I am looking forward to seeing the new SOG though. We are considering a November trip and I assume it will be open by then.

Hi,
My son is in the Navy Reserves and we are trying to get 2 rooms at SOG for December. Do we pay tax on the rooms? I was under the impression that tax was charged but in one of the posts on this thread it appears that there is no tax charge. Can someone please clarify? No tax means more $$ for meals!!

Thanks,

SoG Says Add Tax

From http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html

"...Add 11.5 percent state and county taxes to all room rates."

That's what their rates page says.

My understanding is while SoG is operated by MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation for you folks who collect abbreviations) it is NOT located on government property and therefore is subject to local taxes.

[This from a dad who is 'managing' his DS's honeymoon SoG reservation while he is in the Persian Gulf]

My understanding when I made my ressie is that while they are having to put people in the Contemporary-you have to pay tax while staying there, they say it is unavoidable since you are at the Contemporary. They stress to you, when you call, that there is nothing they can do to compensate for the fact that you have to pay tax while at the Contemporary.

On the site it states they will give you the same SOG rate....
with the exception of an additional 11.5% state and county tax.

I don't remember paying tax before for our rooms or anything else there at Shades of Green.

I AM CONFUSED! :dazed

Try calling and asking, it is toll free: 888-593-2242

Hey Lauren, we had the same deal last year! We had gotten a rate of $89 per night at CBR, but when they closed it we got the Poly for $98!!! Unbelievable!! At that time, the Poly was my absolute dream resort so I was in HEAVEN, let me tell you. They offered us POFQ (the only other Moderate not yet full) but HEY, for only $9 more per night, we'd be nuts not to stay at the Poly!!!

I wish something like that would happen again, cuz this time I would try to get the AKL! :laugh That's my current "dream resort."

And Franco, I am sure that if they tell you they will be open, either 1) they will, or 2) they will make sure to compensate you well for the inconvenience. They would not leave you without a place to stay. I wouldn't stress too much. You gotta keep SOME of that hair!!! ;)

Almost sure???

I am almost sure that with all the calls I have made someone, sometime has told me that the ACTUAL SOG is NOT taxed. Last trip in April 03 they put us in the Contempary North Wing, ground floor twenty yards from water, it was excellent. If I can brush away the cobwebs, I am 99.999999 percent sure thier is no tax on the new one. I am pumped for the new one, but I don't want it to be two thirds done, no landscaping done, and just a couple of inches of water and a frog or two in the pool!! I think I will call them again in a few hours when it gets light out and see what they say. :dazed   :dazed

SoG NO Tax - Unless Relocated

I reconfirmed and prepaid a reservation with Shades of Green this morning when I spoke with their reservation center on the phone.

If you stay at Shades of Green there is NO tax.

If you are located at another resort (currently Contemp North Garden Wing) during the renovation the rate is SoG rate + 11.5% state and local tax.
