Question about tipping

Can the CM's working at check-in accept tips? I was honestly wondering if I could bribe one for a great room location :nervous . Funny...But true! Im just paranoid that we are going to get a parking lot view (even though I requested a specific building). Nothing will take the "Aloha" out of our trip more than tropical paradise parking! Im willing to pay almost top dollar for a great room (uh....but not enough to pay $100 a day for concierge or even more for a lagoon view).

I wouldn't do that in fear of insulting them. I don't think check-in people take uhhh "tips" unless it's you telling them to have a great day. Room assigners can be faxed 4 days before your trip requesting the p[aticular room you want. Just compose a very nice letter asking them what kind of view you and your family would like. Don't ask for too many paticulars.

Example: Me and my family would love to be able to see _____ on each morning as we wake up. What a way to end and start your day.

Of course you would want to have more to it, but that is just a nice way of asking. Disney tries very hard to meet every room request and ususally gets most of them right. It depends on how busy it is when you are there. I can get you both the fax numbers for Pop Century and the Poly if you want to fax one over. Let me know. It would be no problem at all.

I don't think they take tips either. What you might want to do (I'm not sure where your staying) but ask about an concierge upgrade. My good friend got one at the WL for $55 dollars per night. Sometimes they are willing to do that if they are not all booked up. We stayed at concierge in Nov and loved it. Perfect views, food whenever we wanted to grab something when we returned at night, hard to get PS's. I'd do it again if the price was right.

Front Desk Not Allowed to Accept Tips

I once tried to tip a desk clerk at PO AFTER I was checked in and had a room assignment. She said she was not allowed to accept tips and thanked me for trying.

The front desk personnel don't assign your room.

Inquiring about the price of an upgrade - particularly concierge level - is completely appropriate.

btw - I've heard Disney guests are notorious for being bad/non-tippers. This was from a bell-hop at the (very terrific) Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando who was thrilled to be an ex-Disney undertipped employee.

A parking lot view versus something else is a different price level and therefore it would be an upgrade. So it is perfectly natural/reasonable/logical to ask for this when you check in. People ask for upgrades all the time, so you do not have to feel like it's something special/extra you're asking the CM to do that would make you feel bad for not being able to tip them. Also, since all the room assignments and all that are computerized, a tip wouldn't help -- they either can or they can't, there's no trying harder coming in to it. The only thing extra they could do is if you suggest that you would be willing to move to a different room in a day or two. We did this on our last trip because our rooms were ALL the way on the opposite side of the hotel from the entrance. Stayed one night, and the next day they were able to move us -- and moved us to the rooms ALL the way at the entrance!!! :) Anyway, just ask if it's possible to be upgarded to a water view (pool). Also, double check what room you ARE already paying for -- I'm not clear from your post if you paid for a parking view or not, if you did pay for a water view then you WILL get that view, it's just the location within the hotel you can ask about upon check in.

The Poly has 3 levels: Garden view, Concierge and Lagoon view (this is not including the suites upgrades). Garden view can be the parking lot , the pool, or just garden. This is what level I have payed for, so a parking lot view is a distinct possibility. I did request pool view and it states this on my reservation. I am gonna try the fax route today and keep my fingers crossed. Oh I would love to stay in concierge again! Who do I ask for an upgrade there if Iam willing to pay a little for it? Id take it in a second if it was only 55 a night!

Also, for those staying at the Pop Century at a later date......The best rooms in prime locations are considered an upgrade and are very reasonably priced (I think I paid 10 bucks more for the night).

Thanks for all yalls help. I wont try and bribe the CM's at check in. But I do do my WDW part and I ALWAYS tip very well on vacation!

I read on another website that the Poly has stopped taking faxed room requests because they have to disappoint too many people and they don't like the reaction when people check in and find out that they didn't get what they asked for. This policy will be on a resort-by-resort basis.
