What are the options for a family of 5 or 6?
In my never ending research for accommodations I am trying to find out what my options are at WDW for a family of 5 or 6. Now our 6th is only a month old so 5 is really the number I am using. It seems to me that all of the rooms that I find are for 4 people. And only POR has a trundle bed for a 5th. I also think that the Deluxe Resorts have a sleeper sofa for a 5th.
I am trying to keep the expenses reasonable so keep that in mind. One factor to consider is that so far we have not stayed longer than 3 nights so we usually do not spend any off days or afternoons at the resort except for maybe the first. That being the case I usually do not consider all of the amenities offered. What other options are there? Should I look off-site? I have done some research and there are some suites that are not too bad. |

This has always been a problem for my family too. We have three DS's (9, 13, and 15). We usually stay in the deluxes because my DH and oldest DS are 6'4" and 6'2" so we need the room and DH insist on a bed no smaller than a queen. During our last trip before we move to the BC I booked the WL villas. I booked the one bedroom villa and although it was only suppose to have four person per room it was so spacious. 727 sq feet to be exact. It had a kitchen area and a washer and dryer. See the attached link and room layout
http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/asp/...&submit1=go%21 It is a bit more pricey than a regular hotel room but for the space it can't be beat. You could also do two rooms at the Pop Century or All Stars or POR (although it would be a little tight for you). The Deluxe hotel also have deluxe room and for a lttle more than a regular room you can get almost and room and a half. It's really tough with disney when you have a bigger family they certainly make you pay for accomdating them. During our last visit a CM told my DH and I that WDW caters to the standard family of four. If you look at the restuarants you'll see what he was talking about it much easier to get a seating for four than for five or six. Hey I love disney anyway and I will overcome whatever to get there - I just wish someday they'll make it more affordable for us. Paying for two rooms or a villa can get quite expensive when you take into account you still have to buy tiks and feed your family too. Done ranting - Hope you fine something that suites your family. Paula

We are a family of 5 - granted the 5th is in a crib but we have a one bedroom villa at the Wilderness Lodge booked for January. I plan on bringing our blow up air mattress for one kid, one will sleep on the pull out couch and the baby in his crib. We've rented a studio at Old Key West before & it's not any bigger than a regular room, although it does have a kitchenette. As for off property - 2 years ago we stayed in a one bedroom suite at the Wyndam and it was pretty spacious. There was a queen size pull out couch & they have rollaway beds too. Also had 2 bathrooms which was nice.

A good quality air mattress could be the answer. We're only four, but my daughters refuse to sleep in the same bed. Girls!! Even though we're DVC members and always get a one bedroom villa, one will always opt to sleep on the floor, rather than with her sister. A few years ago we bought a good air mattress that packs flat at the bottom of a suitcase and inflates with a hairdryer. There are probably even better models out there now. It works very well.

We are a family of 5 also and it has been a pet peeve of mine that Disney does not make value accomodations for families of 5. However, as a result we found the Polynesian, which has become our Disney home :D . The Poly has 2 Queens and a very comfortable daybed (in fact the daybed is probably the most comfortable bed in the room). It is also large enough for a full grown adult.
For a family of 5 the WL Villas are quite a luxury! Probably more so than the Polynesian, and something that wasnt in the link above, is that the one bedroom Villas come with either a king size bed in the bedroom or 2 queens. This choice is more expensive than the Poly by something like $300 a night (or close to it). But weve done the Villas and thought it was worth the money. Both are great choices, but if you are looking for economy I recommend getting 2 rooms at one of the All-Stars or Pop-Century. Depending on the time of year and what discounts you can find you can get 2 rooms anywhere from $100 a night to $190 a night.

a few more options would be:
the fort wilderness campgrounds, for those who haven't been there in a long time I heard they replaced the old brown trailers and now have more home like looking trls. according to disney.com they accomadate up to 6 per trl. its one of the older resorts but still a good one, however renting a golf cart isn't a bad idea. another option would be to rent a house. I know there are many of them for rent, however its illegal in orange county to rent your house for less then 6 months so you'll have to go to ocesola county, but there are some nice ones availble some right in my backyard. don't have any websites for them but someone else here might. also OKW has some very nice units they are larger then the other villa's I prefer OKW to all others. its more apt. like then hotel like. |

I agree that the accomodations are quite spacious...two Queen size beds and a full size daybed that MOST DEFINITELY is the size for an adult. You can also get the Poly Garden View for under $200 per night, if you are going in Value Season or when AP discounts are released...and I am sure the FL resident discounts are almost as good! Good luck! :D

We are a family of 5 also. There really aren't that many "value" options for us in Disney.
Last year we were in a one-bedroom villa at the Beach Club. This time around we are trying Port Orleans with the trundle bed. I really have no idea what we'd do if we had a 6th ??

We have the same problem as well. You might want to explore offsite options. You might find some good deals. If you have any family or friends who are active or retired military or reserves check out this website www.afvclub.com. Two trips ago, we used this and had a 2bedroom 2bath condo at Orange Lake Country Club for $250 for the entire week! It was a very nice resort and only a few minutes away from the parks. The condos they have available on their website are at different resorts and usually accomodate 4-8 people. The only problem with this website is that there is not always availability and they do not become available until a few months (or sometimes shorter notice) before you plan to take your trip. There probably won't be anything available during peak times either. Let me know if you would like anymore info on this website.
