all star resorts?!
Hi there everyone!
I'm a new member to the DC site. I have read through some of the posts for a few weeks now, while in the process of trying to plan my Sep. WDW trip. You all seem very knowledgeable and friendsly, so I decided to join:) I was interested in staying at the all star music resort. I've never stayed at a value resort before. When I was a kid and went with my family (approx. 13 times) we either stayed off property, or in a deluxe resort, Beach club being my favorite. (I know, I'm spoiled:love: ) So, now that I am old enought to have to pay for myself (i'm 24, my boyfriend is 28), we are trying to cut costs. Last Sep. we stayed at Coronado springs and enjoyed it, however, considering how LITTLE time we spent in the room, we thought it might make sense to stay at an all star. So, now that you all know my life story, SORRY!! I just would like some details about all star music..or even pop century. Are they really that far away from the parks, are there TONS of kids???? do they have KING beds (CS stuck us with 2 double beds..i felt like we were on the Donna Reed show), do they have jacuzzis in the pool area? etc. ANY tips or info would be great. Should we just "splurge" on a moderate resort?? HELP!!!:nooo: Thanks everyone!! Christy |

Welcome aboard!! We are so glad to have you here
I have stayed at A.S. Sports/Music/ and Movies and by far my families favorite is movies with music being a close second. Have you also considered staying at the new Pop Century. It just opened a couple weeks ago. Check out the photos and reviews of all the resorts at www.allearsnet.com. Click on "ACCOMMODATIONS". As far as I know, they do have rooms with a king size bed, but they are "accessible" rooms. To answer your question about kids all over....Yes! But, if you request a room at Music, request Calypso, 3rd floor and it should be fairly quite. At any of value resorts, always ask for something other than a first floor room. There is a lot of foot traffic! I don't remember a whirlpool at the All Stars. I know there is a quite pool. http://www.allearsnet.com./acc/faq_asm.htm info http://www.allearsnet.com./acc/g_asmu.htm photos http://www.allearsnet.com./acc/faq_asmrv.htm reviews

thanks for the welcome BDavis
We were considering pop century, but we figured that it might be jam-packed because so many people would want to try the newest place (although, I do know that it is supposed to be HUGE...and I know it's disney, so there will be lots of people everywhere). What do you mean by the rooms being "accessible"? I'm assuming it means wheelchair accessible. Neither of us need one, but we prefer a king room. do you have to be in need of a wheel chair to stay in an "accessible" room? Is there really a difference? |

Welcome to DC Snazzy! It's good to have to here with us. I have stayed at both the All Star's music and movies and enjoyed both of my stays emensely. It's always just me and my Daughter so these smaller rooms don't matter when it's only two of you. Another place you may want to try is the brand new Pop Century resort. It is another value resort. Like BDavis suggested, go to allears.net and check out the pictures and whatnots. Happy planning. You have picked the right forum ot join. The people here ae kind and helpful. Happy Planning!

None of the value resorts have jacuzzis. (which is the very reason DH doesn't want to stay at one.)

Welcome to DC Snazzy!
We have only stayed at the AS resorts. We've stayed at AS Movies twice and AS Music once; when we go in March 04 we're staying at the Pop Century. The ONLY drawback that I have with the AS resorts is the fact that they share a bus. If you're staying late at one of the parks to watch the fireworks, Fantasmic, Illuminations then it is a LONG line to catch the bus. The PLUS side to staying at the AS resort is when we stayed at the AS Music we asked for a room away from all the noise and we had the 'Country Music' section. We had a room that opened up to a forest. VERY QUIET!!! Really nice. Our DD was 10 at the time and didn't mind the walk to the pool. I do believe you can request a KING size bed. My DH and myself are used to a king and because we have our DD they will never let us have a king room. We always bring an Aerobed for DD to sleep on but they don't seem to care; it has to do with the number of people in the room. You can always request a KING bed and a QUIET section of the resort. Disney is pretty accomodating. Personally I can't justify the $$$$ you spend at a moderate resort because we only spend enough time to sleep and shower.

Welcome to DC,SnazzyCMB!! I recommend the Pop Century because all the buildings of the resort are closer to Classic Hall(check-in and food court). I stayed at 80's A on New Year's Eve and we walked to Classic Hall to catch the bus. Another plus is Pop Century is the only resort on the bus so you don't have to share with any other resorts.

Welcome to Disney Central, SnazzyCMB. I thought I might add that the "accessible" rooms with the king size beds, do not have bathtubs, but the kind of shower accessible to wheelchairs.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I do think that I joined the right forum, everyone is so informative and friendly, I love it! Thanks for all the great info. My only concern with the Pop Century is that (correct me if I'm wrong) it's opening in 2 phases, and if the 2nd phase isn't open by the time we're there, I'm afraid there will be lots of noise and construction and whatnot. I could be way off here, but that's just something we thought of. And, no tub in "accessible" rooms?!? that's too bad, now i'm confused...Do i want the ability to relax in a tub and soak my tired feet, or have a nice huge bed?!?!:dazed The links have been very helpful and the photos of the resorts, rooms, etc. are making our decision even harder!! They all look wonderful!!! thanks again everyone

The second phase of Pop Century does not have any construction going on. Besides, that section is across the lake from the Classic Years section. I doubt you would hear anything as the basic structure is up. The construction still needed is mostly interior.

DH and I stayed at ASSp, Touchdown Hotel on the 3rd floor, Nov 29-Dec 2. We requested a room with a king bed and got it. It was an accessible room but it did have a tub. I thought it did but I also checked with DH just to make sure I was right.
One thing that I wasn't aware of until the 2nd day of our stay - there was also a small fridge in our room "hidden" in what I thought was a drawer and we weren't charged for it. Because DH and I were there for so short a stay, we didn't have many things to store in the drawers until I did some shopping. That's when I opened the "drawer" and found it to be a DOOR instead with the fridge inside. Another point about ASSp - If you're staying at AS Movies or Music, ASSp is the first pick up and the first drop off. Have a great time planning, anticipating and then enjoying your trip! ![]()

Welcome aboard, Snazzy.
I stayed at All Star Music last may in an attempt not to spend much while I was visiting family in Florida. I did not go to the parks that week, nor plan to, except for a day at Epcot, so actually spent a great deal of time (5 days) at the resort. I didn't think I was going to think much of it at first, having stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge the year before... but I found the All Star Music was fine.. A nice little corner to be at. The icons aren't as flashy as some of the others, and the Guitar Shaped pool with the three Caballeros in it was pretty big. I really enjoyed staying there. The grounds were well kept and pleasant. And even though there was one rowdy night when teens ran the place, the rest of the stay was nice, relaxing, peaceful. I'd stay there again, but I'm interested in trying the Pop Century after my upcoming stint at the Contemporary this spring. Book it. You'll enjoy it.
