Staying at more than one resort

Hi all-

My DH, me and 2 DSs will be going to WDW fairly soon. We are currently booked at POR, but we have stayed there before. We were thinking of breaking our trip up and staying the first 4 nights at Coronado Springs and the last 6 nights at AKL. We have never stayed at either of these resorts.
I know some of you have split your trips between resorts. How did this work out for you? Is it a big hassle to move? How about luggage transfers? Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks.

(Poor Mouseketrips has already changed our ressies once. Guess they may have to do it again. :heart you MOUSEKETRIPS!!)

Hi-

Last December we split our stay between AKL and the Poly. It worked out well. We moved our own luggage. For us, it just made more sense, we had a rental car and I called the Poly 1st thing in the AM and the room was ready, so we just loaded up and went right over, unpacked and checked things out, and got on with our day by 10AM.

When we checked in at AKL, we told them we were transferring, and they didn't offer to help with the luggage, if we did not have a car I would have pursued it further, also had the room not been ready I would have pursued it as well.

We liked changing, it was cool to be able to stay at 2 different resorts in 1 trip.

Lauren

this is something that I always wanted to try, but have been afraid of doing. If I went for more than 5 or six days, than it would seem more worth it to me. Please let me know how you make out Crystal. It may be something I want to consider for next time. Thanks!

I'm itching to do this, too, since there are so many places to stay. My travel companions for my next trip (one being my adult nephew) decided on the Contemporary after we almost went with a great suggestion by Mickey to try out Fort Wilderness. (sorry, Mickey :-( ) (But still,it's the CR!!! / :-)
We are traveling with a friend who has never been to WDW, and I almost wish we could do a bit of each. Kind of like starting at Pop Century or an All Star, then move on to the Contemporary, then finish it off with the Wilderness or AKL to give her the complete scope of the places. But he's been having back problems (no high speed rides for him!) and decided a monorail hotel would be best.
I keep looking at the WL and keep trying to figure out how to sneak it into the trip somehow, since splitting the cost it by 3 is one of the few ways to actually afford it (but the room itself might be more cramped for 3).
Plus, they feel :
a) "A hotel's a hotel. It doesn't matter, long as you can get some sleep."

Well... Yeah.. But...They've never stayed at a "RESORT" before. A Disney Resort is NOT a hotel. They are going to spend a little extra since it's a special trip.

b) They feel it's too much hassle to pack and change rooms.

(And I agreed to share in this, why?
:p -- actually it's a family event we're going to after the Disney romp).

c) They feel there will be enough going on at the parks that we don't need additional distractions at the hotel, which kind of makes sense. I guess. :-)

But on the other hand, we've always wanted to stay at the CR since we were kids, so we figured we'd at least do that while we could. Before it becomes less "contemporary" than it already is. :D
