Pop Century Review

As promised, here is my review of the hotel. We stayed there for 2 nights last week. We were in the 70's building B on the 2nd floor. There are also some pictures of the resort included below.

Pop Century is the newest Value hotel on-site at Disney. It is in the same category and price as the All Stars hotels. The location is adjacent to the Caribbean Beach Resort and right near MGM.

Here is my review:
This is a really nice hotel. I have previously stayed at the All Star Movies hotel and found PC to be a little nicer. This was partly due to the fact that PC is so new.

Rooms: The room size is supposed to be the same as those at the AS. The beds were more comfortable than the ones at the AS and they gave you real shampoo bottles instead of having to fuss with the dispenser in the AS tubs. The toilets still have that power flush, but it did not seem to be as loud as at the AS hotel either.

Pools: There are 3 heated pools here (kiddie pool too), plus one fountain play area for the kids. We did not go in them as it was a bit cold during our visit, but they looked very nice. The fountain play area is similar to what they have at the All Star Movie hotel, but a bit smaller here.

Continuing

Food Court: There was a very nice selection of food available here. Pizzas, Chinese food, and burgers are some of the offerings. They have the setup for you to refill your mugs and I liked the fact that some of your choices included hot chocolate and frozen cokes (especially since I am not a coffee drinker). There is lots of seating available too. The prices were…well….Disney prices, but overall not too terrible. I was told that the pizzas were really good, but I did not try them myself.

Layout: This is a BIG resort. (I will try to remember to link the layout map to this thread). Each building is 4 stories tall (with both elevators and stairs) and has 3 wings. The 60’s buildings are the ones considered to be “preferred” due mostly to the fact that they are around the main pool. If you just want to be near the main building, then there is a 70’s and a 50’s building that are just as close if not closer. The bus area is right next to the main building toward the 70’s side. The courtyard areas include a walkthrough foozball (sp??) table and a giant Twister board. There are also some Disney characters in front of some of the buildings (giant Mickey phone in the 70’s area, Baloo in the 60’s area).

(The picture is a view looking from one 70's building to the other.)

Continuing some more

Crowd Level: I cannot comment too much on this since we went in January mid-week and I know that they were not fully booked, but with the number of rooms there, I would guess that when full it can get pretty crowded.

Buses: We did not use bus transportation, but they did seem to come frequently (like ever 15 minutes or less) and people were not left waiting for too long.

Parking: There is plenty of parking, but depending on which building you are in, it may be a bit of a haul to get from your car to your room.

And finally

Would I Stay Here Again? Yes. This hotel was nice and very inviting. Everything was very clean and the staff was very friendly. I liked it a little more than the All Star resorts. We paid $49+tax/night (AP rate) and it was definitely worth it. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience! I will give it 4 Mickeys :) :) :) :)

Any questions?

Great review and pictures. I have never stayed at an All-Star resort but if I ever do this is the one I would pick. I like your pictures, they make the resort look great.

Great report! I concur with everything you said. The weekend I stayed there they were at 100% occupancy. Despite that, there was little wait at the food court and plenty of tables. The day I checked out the check-in line was pretty long. And even though they had CMs at every check-in station, I imagine it took some time to go through that line.

Here is a copy of a layout map. Here is the link for it since the picture is too big.

We were in the 70's Building B in the wing that swings out to the left toward Classic Hall.

That little circle spot near the 70's building is a playground and the play fountain is by where that red square is.

Thanks for writing this review. This is where we are planning on staying and I was wondering how the stay would be. From everything you've said I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time.

One question tho... You said you paid 49 + tax per night, which was a AP rate. What does the AP mean and how can I get discounted prices like that. I'm planning this vacation and am not a very tight budget. Any suggests anyone has about saving $$ please let me know. Thanks

Tinamarie-

Welcome to Disney Central!!
AP means annual pass, the annual tickets to Disney.

When are you planning on going to Disney? Have you booked it yet? Do you know about the discount codes?

Fill us in on your plans, we love to be able to help people around here!!
