Port Orleans Riverside

We are staying at WDW from 05/10 thru 05/16. I have made reservations at POR. We have stayed there before & loved it!
However; my husband was reading one of the Disney books (not sure which one), & is concerned because it states that POR has fallen on hard times. It also states that most of the rooms on the Port Orleans side are being refinished, and that there is only 1 restaurant to service the hotel. He is questioning whether it will be terribly crowded, and therefore make it difficult for us to enjoy ourselves. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
Also, if anyone else will be down there at this time & would like to get together (our daughter will be with us, she is 20 & loves WDW. She is the one who got us started going there. ); we'd be happy to meet you!!!!

Welcome to DC, mumsy!

We will just miss you this May. My daughter (21) and I will likely be going home on May 10. My daughter is crazy about Disney and recently worked there on a college internship.

Now about POR...POR has always had just one sit-down restaurant along with the food court. That has always been sufficient for the crowds at POR.

What is being renovated right now is PO French Quarter, or what used to be the Port Orleans Resort. After that resort is completed, POR (what used to be the Dixie Landings Resort) will be shut down and totally renovated.

Disney has always kept their resort rooms in fine shape so I don't think the fact that the resort is scheduled for renovation is an indication that the rooms are shabby or run down.

I have not seen any negative feedback on the several Disney boards I read from the many people who have stayed at POR recently. I think you will be fine.

Welcome to DC Mumsy. Rest assured PO is just as beautiful as always. We stayed there 12/4/03 until 12/13/03 and it was gorgeous. The rooms were clean and very nice. We enjoyed it very much. Mousekeeping kept everything wonderful. Boatwright's is their sit-down restaurant and they do have a lounge that serves sandwiches and snacks. The food court was very nice and the food was very good. Large servings were always given. The pools were all well kept, clean and Ole' man island always had plenty of towels. I think that you will enjoy it. My family spent a whole day just exploring and playing at the resort. My only complaint the whole time was the bus area was a little dirtier than we were used to seeing but it still was not that bad. They are renovating the French Quarter but it did not affect Riverside at all. I hope you have a great trip!!!!!
:)

I would call and get the reservations changed to stay in the newly remodeled side, French Quarter. They are opening it earlier than expected, March 21, as they are done with it. All new everything. They are taking reservations now for it. Here is a direct link to the story.
