Resort Upgrades

This may be a stupid question - but -

I have read on several post about UPGRADES in resorts. If you ask for an upgrade at checkin and one is abailable, do they charge you the higher room price or the price you booked at?

What exactly do you ask for? I may try this May but I want to be sure what I am asking.

When we were checkin in to the All-Stars last March, the couple in line in front of us was told that they were moved to the AKL at no additional cost. Does this happen often? Do you know why it would happen?

Thanks!

Wow..unless there was a huge mix up and they had given their room away by mistake I can't imagine getting an upgrade from a value resort to a deluxe. When you check in, ask if there are any free upgrades available. Sometimes they will give you a better view...or change you from a standard room to a preferred. They don't charge you the difference. That is generally the extent of the upgrades though unless some major screw up occured.

I was very jealous when they were upgraded from value to a Deluxe! I wanted to yell - MOVE ME! MOVE ME!

Wow, that's very unusual. Maybe there was some mix-up or something. I've never heard of them moving people to deluxe resorts. However, we've been upgraded many times. On our last trip we were upgraded from a studio suite at the Boardwalk to a one bedroom overlooking the Boardwalk, and we didn't even ask. Rule of thumb - it never hurts to ask. We asked for an upgrade on the Disney Cruise and went from an outside stateroom to a deluxe outside stateroom with verandah. Good luck.

We got an upgrade once from a standard at AKL to a Savannah view. We were very suprised because we booked this through a FL Resident deal and were only paying 109.00 a night. We thought we would have a beautiful view of the parking lot. Instead we had a great room looking out at animals.

Since then I have requested upgrades and have never gotten one. But we keep trying.

We asked for an upgrade to a 2 bedroom villa from our 1 bdrm. and the CM was very nice and said unfortunately, they were all booked up for our stay. It can't hurt to ask. You can ask for a free upgrade which won't cost you a dime & sometimes they also have other upgrades - like to a concierge room for a fee.

We have been upgraded for free without even asking. I book a room I will be happy with and if I get upgraded all the better. I never plan on an upgrade, I just let them happen, it's part of the magic.

I have been upgraded for free twice now and didn't ask either time. Once at the WL and the other at AKL. I don't know if it had to do with the time of year I went (oct and JAn.feb) or that I was lucky.:D Either way, I took it and ran with it...lol

We have also been upgraded without asking. Last year we were upgraded from standard view to savannah view at the AKL. We never even asked, the CM just told me while I was checking in "looks like you've been upgraded to savannah view":D . I think the resort where you are most likely to be upgraded is at the AKL, apparently they only have around 70 rooms that are actually standard view (overlooking the parking lot) and so I think a lot of people wind up with an upgrade there. As far as being upgraded from a value resort to a deluxe, that seems pretty wild to me. They must have screwed something up pretty badly to give that kind of an upgrade.
