Grosvenor resort

Hi all, I was wondering has anyone stayed at the Grosvenor resort? If so do you or anyone have any pics for there?
I'm staying there next April and going to Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney before I'm off to my cruise.
I'm staying here because the travel agent said I should go a day or so early cuz I'm not using their airfare. And this is where they booked me. I know nothing about this resort. So any info and or pics would be great. Hope to hear from you all soon. Thanks

Tinamarie:

Here's a website where you can see picks.

http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/

Another one you might trip is tripadvisor.com they have reviews of all the hotels in the area. Check it out because I remember there being an issue with asking for a tower room because the other rooms aren't as nice. Good Luck.

Hope that helps.

Great site find, Paula! I needed that info for someone else. They had spotted a deal for the Grovesner for $80 on the night
they were going and asked me to find out about it. This site will definitely help.

BTW- is it me, or have the prices for these "off-site" hotels been getting to the point where it's not really that much less than the ones inside the parks? I mean I know a difference of 20 dollars can add up over the course of a week, but I was amazed to find that the nicer hotels around the area are catching up in terms of price per night.

We need to book one additional night and were thinking about Downtown Disney - but for another 20 dollars we could stay at say, a standard room in AKL.

Tony,

You have to be careful when booking off-site because some of them (Like Hotel Royal Plaza) charges a 7.00 per day resort fee on top of the room rate. That's something they don't always make clear to you up front. Did you try this site too. It's very good for getting review on off site hotels.

Not yet, but I'll look into both in depth over the next couple of days.

Thanks for the heads-up on the fees. Again those fees are making me feel we might as well still book someplace onsite even if it's just for a night.

My sister was going to stay there, so I drove by it and filmed the outside to give her an idea of what it was like. Then I drove by some of the other sites on disney property. In my opinion, it really didn't look that nice to me. I actually told her I don't think I would want to stay there if it were me....and this is someone who loves a good deal. It just looked kind of run down. I was thinking that maybe I could hook up my camcorder and put pictures of the outside on here for you to look at. If you could, you might want to check into Pop Century or some of the AS resorts...or CB...I don't know the prices, but if you can get specials to the Disney resorts, I think it might be a lot nicer. I don't want to downgrade off sites, because I know there are some nice ones...but just the looks of that one, I wasn't very impressed. Good Luck! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you with your decision.

Thanks all for the info. And to Goofette, if there is anyway that you can send some of those pics that would be great.
The reason I was staying at the Grosvenor is because that is where the travel agent said that I can get a transfer out of there to my cruise. But they are charging me 322.00 for 2 nights. I think that seems a bit high. When I was going to make all the ressies by myself I was planning on staying at the new Pop Century. But she says that the transfers aren't valid out of there. So I have a major issue with how are we going to get to the ship in Port Canaveral? I'm thinking I don't want to pay that much money for a run down hotel. Even if it wasn't run down that's alot of money when I was only going to spend about 160.00 for 2 nights. I hope someone on here and please help me. I'm sure others have done a disney vacation and then a cruise. This will be our first cruise and I haven't a clue of what I'm doing.

$322 for 2 nights? That is way too much for the Grosvenor resort. Even paying rack rates, you wouldn't pay that much at one of Disney's value resorts.

Are you taking a 7 day cruise? Rather than getting the cruise bus at the airport as most 7 day cruise guests do, the bus can pick you up at one of the scheduled Disney resort hotels. You would have to get to one of those hotels on your own or using Disney resort transportation. You, or in this case your travel agent, must let the cruise line know you will be catching the cruise bus at a particular resort. There is an additional charge of $1 per person for your transfers if you do it this way.

Tina:

Check out tripavisor.com about the Grosvenor. Here's some of the reviews. That 322.00 is way high for that resort. There are some 36 review it's worth checking out. I know the Hotel Royal Plaza across the street does Port Carnaval thing because I say the people leaving for their cruise and getting on their bus. You can book that hotel (which I've stayed at and it was very nice) at Mousesavers.com for 69.00 a night plus a 7.00 resort fee making it 76.00 a night. You'd save about 150.00 by booking there instead.

I stayed at the Grosvenor Hotel from 1/26 to 29th. I booked through expedia and had a standard room. They should call it substandard. It was cramped, internet TV did not work, and the view was awful. If you stay in one the "wings" you do not have direct access to the lobby. The little cafe is a joke. Coffee was bitter. We made jokes about going down and getting a $54.00 cup of coffee. Prices were ridiculous. When we checked in the valet shouted to ask if we needed help. He didn't even stand to grreet us. Most of the staff needed an attitide adjustment. I've heard of a stiff upper lip, but a little smile isn't that hard to make.

Grosvenor Resort Hotel, Florida - excellent. We travel from Edinburgh, Scotland and have been using this hotel for fifteen years now, since our son was eight, he is now 23 years old.Wonderful views from the bedrooms of the Disney Village Marketplace and of course the various firework displays throughout the Kingdom. Buffet breakfast and evening meal - superb. Shuttle services excellent. Staff first class. Great atmosphere. Have never considered staying anywhere else while in Orlando.

We almost did not book because of the reviews and went with much concern. When we arrived they were very helpful. Hotel did not smell funny, elevators were not scary, the room was clean and had coffee makers, hair dryer, mini fridge. The view to downtown disney was great from the tower room. All the transportation was convenient and timely. This was a great deal for the location. Was too cold to use the pool, etc., but we had fun at the parks.

Took my nephews, sister and Mom and really enjoyed the downtown Disney area. It was so great to be able to escape the July heat mid-afternoon and get on the great free bus that takes you back to your hotel (about 30 minutes). We could walk to Crossroads shopping Center and have a nice, relaxing lunch, take a nap and then go back to the parks around 4-5pm.Rooms were clean and comfortable, but it was the price that hooked me. $79/night and the 6th night free!!Rented refrigerator was below average, kept our items just barely cold and the small freezer box didn't fit much and really didn't freeze. My only complaint (not bad!)

Orlando: Grosvenor Resort in the Walt Disney World Resort: "Much better than what I expected"

Finally, after months of waiting and reading mixed reviews our time came to go to Grosvener.I wasn't sure what to expect because of all the mixed reviews I have read over the past months. We stayed in tower, 17th flr for 5 nights from 1/18-1/23. The room had a nice view of Disney and we saw Epcod's fireworks everynight at 9:00 which was fantastic. The room was a little bit dated but big and clean. It came with medium size refrigerator at not extra cost which was great. The pool was nice and clean. There was a free internet access and kids could play games, although the volume button on the TV wasn't working properly all the times. The location is great just a few minutes from downtown disney. The transportation to the parks was wonderful, we didn't have to wait more than 10-15 minutes. Overall I was happy with our stay. p.s I don't recommend the courtyards room since they are just like motel rooms. If you're planning to stay in this resort, make sure to stay in the tower otherwise don't expect too much.

Paula is correct about the Hotel Royal Plaza. We stayed there a few weeks ago, the night before our cruise. I got a rate of $65.00 from Mousesavers, (plus the $7.00 resort fee). It was a standard room. We had nothing to complain about. The hotel was attractive and the room was very clean. Nothing outstanding, but certainly acceptable for the price we paid. Although we didn't take the shuttle bus, we were told that it does pick up passengers for the cruise at the Royal Plaza.

Thanks for all the good info all. Does anyone know if I have to book the shuttle bus in advance to take us to Port Canaveral? Or any websites I could check or anything.

Also yeah I thought that 322 was way too much money. We're going with our 2 teenagers and I'm sure they will be able to spend tons of money on stuff so any amount I can save off the room rate would be great.

Thanks again all for all the info. This is our first time flying (well DH has flew once before) and our first cruise and this is all a bit overwhelming. :dazed

tinamarie, I've been trying to figure out how to get my camera hooked up here so you can see the video, but so far I'm having no luck at all I think the 322 is really too high too. I'm not familiar with the whole cruise thing and how it works to get you there, but I would have to think something is out there that is better. We'll all keep trying to help you find that. I understand about wanting to save money. We stayed at AKL, and was going to take the Savannah room, but when mousesavers.com came out with specials, we chose to stay in a standard room for so much less....we were lucky and was upgraged for free to a pool view that I loved, so It worked out, and with the money we saved I bought the digital camcorder.

The first year I went to Disney was for my honeymoon, unfortunately I had the worst travel agent, who knew nothing about Disney really, and I was so disappointed in what they did for us. Since then I've learned so much especially from people on the boards here. Are you already committed to this travel agent? Or are you able to switch at this time? Reason I'm asking is Mickey who runs this site here knows so much about Disney, and has his own Travel Agency and has been so helpful to me on our trip (even though he didn't have his agency at the time of our trip, which shows his dedication). It might be worth it to give him a call or check into things with him. He will help you in anyway he can, and knows Disney inside out.

I hope we can help you find something better. I really didn't like the looks of that hotel when we drove by, and like I say, I didn't see the inside of the grovesnor, but the outside seemed very run down compared to other hotels/resorts at Disney. I'll keep searching for you and keep trying to get this camera thing figured out. :)

We had a rental car. Our reasoning was this: We had, by this time been at WDW for 2 weeks. The shuttle bus from the Resort to Cape Canaveral would cost $100.00, for 2, both ways. However, we had two weeks of luggage that we didn't want to drag on to the cruise. (Try explaining why you're taking hockey equipment on a cruise:dazed ). We had no place to store it. Also, if we had found someplace to store it, we would have had to gone back there, to pick it up. We had a relatively early flight home that day and didn't want to chance wondering around. We found an extremely inexpensive rental (Dollar - 6 days - $200.00) through Expedia.com. On the day before the cruise, we exchanged our first rental car, for that. It did cost us $l00.00 extra, but the time and effort saved was worth it for us. Are there 4 of you? - if so, you will be paying $200.00 in shuttle bus fees, so maybe you should consider a rental car. (BTW, we took the cheapest, most standard car they had).
