On site: disney or non-disney hotel?

We are planning our first trip this May. I am thinking of staying at the PC or the Hotel Royal Plaza. Are there any advantages to staying at the Disney hotel? We have two small children, so I am concerned about getting back to the hotel for naps, etc. Thanks.

Welcome to DC!!! For your first trip,I can't recommend highly enough the Pop Century. If you are concerned about getting back to your resort for naps, then this is the ideal place to stay of the two resorts you mentioned,as the WDW bus will get you to the resort from the parks. I hope you have a great trip!!!

evstac,
Just something for you to think about. If you haven't made your reservations yet, you might want to do that. This is so, you get the nights you want. Then when you get your Disney Visa card, you can call and hopefully get the discount But at least you will have your room booked. Because Disney only gives out so many discounted rooms, so sometimes there's a chance that you might not get the discout for the time you want. Just something for you to think about............:hmmm JOANN:)

If you can afford to stay on-site, DO IT. That's my advice. :D

You will love the convenience of the WDW transportation. Definitly on site. My DH was aprehensive until we actually stayed on site. Now he tells other people they should stay on site and how to get discounts!!:laugh

Thanks for all of your input. I love this website! We have not made our reservations yet, as we are not sure if we will do just disney or the land/cruise vacation. But we will definitely stay at a disney hotel! Maybe even consider getting a moderate instead of a value hotel. Decisions, decisions!

For us, a big plus to staying onsite is Extra Magic Hour. Each day a different park is the EMH park. That means that onsite guests can get into that park an hour before the general public. You can really get onto some of the rides that will be more crowded later on.

We're going in May with two kids (5 & 3) and an infant. My plan right now is part on-site & part off. What I don't like about Disney resorts is the lack of affordable 1/2 bedroom suite accomodations. I just think it would be very difficult to get all the kids down for naps/bedtime especially if us parents want to stay up/snack/watch tv etc. For the price of a moderate resort you can get a 1 bedroom offsite suite with separate living room area with pullout sofabed. Often with free continental breakfast too.
