Poly or WL?

Hey guys, If you've glanced at my thread in the Mousetrap, you would know the serious dillema I'm in, :dazed lol. To catch you up, here's some background info:
With all the new discounts that were released, I was able to get a price quote for the Polynesian for $500 ($225 a night) for a 2 night stay in mid May. My mom has been dreaming about staying at this hotel forever, however with my trip to the U.K. next month, I've really been draining my parents bank account with payments, necessities, luggage, etc.. So I'm not sure if we would be able to pull it off, even at this great rate.
I was figuring the budget and stuff out for the trip when I realized that we could stay at the Wilderness Lodge for the same weekend for about $140 a night ($280 total), which is a $220 difference. We have never stayed here either (other then the WL cabins about 8 years ago) and would like to know what it is like. What do you guys recommend? Is the Poly worth the $220 extra? Is it more convenient, nicer rooms? Take a vote! We haven't decided on anything yet, who know's we may end up staying at a moderate if the price is right! But these are the big 2 that we are discussing. Let us know your opinion!
Joe:)

I voted Polly before I read the entire scenerio. Go WL. It's a great resort...one of my favorites actually. For $140 a night, you can't pass that up. The Polly will be there for future visits!:)

I voted Wilderness Lodge. We too were having a hard time deciding between the two for our next trip in 2005. But we are buying a house in the next couple of months and I know WL will be more affordable. I would go with WL this time and plan a trip for your mom later at the Poly. Maybe for her bday or mothers day after your UK trip. The Wilderness Lodge is beautiful of course so is the Poly, either way you will not be disappointed.

I have stayed at both Poly Sept. 02 and WL Nov. 03. Poly is my personal favorite but I also loved the WL. So, if budget is the primary concern I would say go with WL. One bit of advice about the WL is to ask for a room that is not in the main main part of the building. We were in a Woods view room on the 5th floor ( I think??) over the check in desk and the noise from the Whispering Canyon was extremely loud! We also paid extra for the Woods view and our view was roof tops with some trees way out in the distance... not worth the extra $$ IMHO.

Both resorts are beautiful and have fun pools and great food choices! The Poly rooms are larger and I like the bathroom areas better because the vanity/sink is closed off from the room... a nice feature if an early riser wants to get ready / run a hair dryer without waking the others. The WL rooms are just enough space and a good value for the money but don't offer the closed off vanity/sink area.

As for the convenience issues... You can't beat the convenience of the Poly! Monorail or boat service and the walkway to TTC are reason enough to cough up the extra $$ for a short trip! The WL is also convenient with the boat to MK which makes the more affordable option appealing.

One way to look at is maybe you should work your way up... stay at the WL first and graduate to the Poly on a futre trip. Once you've tasted the convenience of the Poly it's hard not to be a tiny bit negative when you stay at other resorts.

Good luck deciding. Both choices are wonderful and I'm sure you'll be happy with eiter.

hi there, im new to this site but hopefully ill do this correctly!
Well, i have been lucky enough to stay at both of these resort hotels and each are absolutely fantastic!
Personally i would advice you to stay in the wilderness lodge at that rate. If you find yourself with better finances at a later stage then you can use this on the vacation for an even better stay!
I honeymooned at the poly and found it magical. But the lobby of the lodge.......truly an awesome sight.
So, stay at the lodge and you can always go to the poly for meals or cocktails can't you?

good luck

Welcome to DC,Ariel!! I am sure you will love it here.

Okay,Joe,I voted Wilderness Lodge because of the cost factor. Both places are beautiful and you will have a great time at either place.

I voted for WL. At that rate you just cannot pass WL up!!! It does have direct boat access to MK. I am not sure about transportation to the rest of the parks. I say go for WL!

I would vote WL also. I think we're going to try to stay there next time. But with the $$ savings, I think you would like WL enough not to be too disappointed.

Thanks guys! We are still trying to figure everything out, but hopefully we will be going end of May! I think we might go with the WL for cost factor, but thats not a bad second choice!

Couldn't tell you on the Poly. I mean we have walked through it a few times, but never stayed. We stayed one night at the WL and wow. How spectacular that sure was. I am sold on WL for future visits when we are not staying at All Star.

Good luck

I would stay at Wilderness Lodge, but make a PS at Ohana at Poly... you can park in their lot, have a really fun dinner, see the hotel, then take the monorail to MK (or you don't even have to do that... you can sit on the Poly beach and see it all!
