location, location, location

I often see so many people posting about wanting a certain room location. like close to the food court, bus stop, away from noise, near the pool.
I know I must be very strange, because unless its something like needing a downstairs room at the CBR because of DH's wheelchair, I really dont have to have a special location. The view isnt really important to me either because every WDW resort I have stayed in, the views (even the ones of a parking lot) were great if only I took a few steps.
Noise?? well while we were at the Pop Century last week .. there was a lot of noise, but never any that kept me awake :)

So I was just wondering .. how important is the room location to everyone else.

I voted somewhat important. I've never had a bad location, but I'm sure the first time I did, then it would be very important. :D So far, so good for me. When I stayed at the Contemp, we were in the garden wing, and I loved walking out to the patio and seeing Space Mt right there. That was AWESOME!

I voted somewhat important.

We've stayed on site three times previously and location was pretty significant in terms of how much we enjoyed our stay.

Last time at AS Movie we were in the Fantasia section closest to the lobby. Even though our room was facing the parking lot, we did not mind at all because the kiddie pool was right around the corner, it was more quiet than the rooms facing the pool, and the food court was close enough that doing little things like refilling our drink mugs was a breeze. Contrast that with our stay at Coronado Springs, where we were pretty far away from the lobby and pool. We didn't enjoy our stay as nearly as much as at AS Movie.

And though we likely won't be able to afford it for sometime (or at least as long as we take the kids ;) ) we were on the concierge level in a honeymoon suite for our Grand Floridian stay in 1991. Everything about that location was fantastic. Close to the lobby, great balcony view of MK across the lagoon, and the concierge services. For us it was the perfect honeymoon (took me 2 yrs to pay for it!!!!).

I voted somewhat important as well. The real factor for me is the distance my room is from the food court and lobby. On our last trip we stayed at POR-Riverside and our room was right behind the lobby complex. We were one short walk over the bridge away from anything we needed. Contrast that with my folks who stayed at AS Music, their room was a good distance from the lobby/food court which was inconvenient. But hey, you're at Disney World, so even a bad room location can't be all that bad. :D

Tink,

I said very important. The combination of the view, proximity to the pool, and correct distance from the foodcourt add up to making that magic we all have come to know and love.

However, a day in a "bad" location at a Disney resort beats a day here in the Windy City anytime!

thats how I feel :) actually as far as walking distance from everything .. well any of you who have seen me or pictures of me .. know I need the exercise *grin*

DisneyHog6 mentioned never having a bad location, and we have never had one either .. but I wonder .. what do you consider a "bad location" other then being too far from everything .. or is that the only thing that makes it a bad location?

I voted somewhat important too. Last trip I booked a standard room at the WL and they upgraded us to a courtyard view (for free:D ). I didn't overlook the pool but the villas next door. It was really nice. I have small children so we take a break in the afternoons. While they (and DH) were napping, I sat on the balcony and planned our evening or the next day and just relaxed. It was really nice. I book a standard room but ask for an upgrade. If I get it great. If not, that is fine too. I'm always happy to be on property b/c sometimes we stay off.

Jwelch-
what bldg did you have? We are staying there next month (just DD and I) so I would like to be close to the food area as well. Was it also close to the main pool?

Tink-
I voted somewhat important, I like to be closer to the FOOD:D and pretty close to the pool. When we stayed at the AKL our room was the absolute last room in the resort. We were so far from everything. We had fun walking through the hallways, but sometimes we just wanted to be at our room a bit quicker.

I know about that long walk ..we were not the last room but we were way down the hall, I think there were only about 8 more rooms past ours, when we stayed at the AKL and I agree sometimes that walked seemed like it was miles!

It depends on the resort. I have had room locations far away with a free upgrade, so I didn't care much. I would say that it depends on the size of the resort. Ones like WL and AKL it really didn't matter to me. The furthest room (mine!) was only a few minutes walk. In the much larger resorts, I can seeing it being a bit more important especially to people with young kids. At the end of the day after all that walking, more walking back at the resort isn't appealing to a cranky, tired child. When I stayed at ASmovies in 2000 I was in the Mighty Ducks wings and it was very far away. Getting a drink and running back to the room from the food court was a major hike for my DD. Any room at WDW is a good room to me too, but close to the hub of things is a plus in my eyes. I'm not going ot throw a tantrum for not getting what I'd hope for, but do always prefer closeness.

I voted somewhat important. I also have never had a bad hotel room. I think that room location is more important in moderate and value resorts more than deluxe hotels. In a deluxe resort, you usually have only a few buildings that your room could could be located in, and they are only moments from a pool and food options. I noticed that in CSR, your room is either by the main building (food, shop, check-in) or by the pool. But in a deluxe resort, everything is just a stones throw away.

I voted somewhat important. The only thing that matters to me is being close to the Lobby/Food Court. At PC I would not want to be way out there in the 90's buidling. The only place that view would really matter to me is AKL and I would just have to have a Savanah view there.
