I was reading on another Disney site today that Disney is adding a bar code to the refillable mugs at the resorts. Apparently you will only be able to use the mugs now during the length of your stay at the resort. I read this will start either this week or next week at the Allstar resorts, and I guess eventually work itself around to the other resorts. I know when we were at Blizzard Beach two weeks ago, the mugs were bar coded and could be used only during that day.
Has anyone else read about this?

Yes, I read an article about this a couple of days ago. Disney has instituted a scanable mug for use at the water parks, and now all drink refills are now self serve and can be done without handing the mug to a CM. It was my understanding that this was simply a test for Disney, and that they may or may not institute it in the resorts.

One thing to remember is that the mugs at the water parks are one day use only, and the mugs at resorts are length of stay mugs, so the barcode may not be applicable in this situation.

When were there in May, the barcode was instituted only at Blizzard Beach. The real plus is that the mugs were much larger than the ones you get at the resorts, so you actually can put ice and more than 4 oz. of drink in them! To get a new barcode, I believe the price is $5.00 which is a steal considering how much it costs to get a large drink. I've heard that the resorts themselves will not implement this process, and you still get the "length-of-stay" ability to fill you resort mugs.
