Animal Kingdom Lodge??

I will be heading to Disney world in July with my son for the 3rd time and I am trying to decide if I want to stay at The Animal Kingdom Lodge... Does anyone know if the monorail provides transportation to and from the lodge to Disney? I am debating if I should rent a car or not while staying at this hotel.....
Thanks all!!
Munfy

Welcome to Disney Central!! Glad you are here!

No, the monorail does not connect to this resort. You can use Disney buses which come every 20 (give or take) minutes to all 4 parks and to DTD and the water parks. You don't need to spend the money on a rental car with Disney's free transportation.

Munfy,

Have you considered the Wilderness Lodge? It is equally as beautiful and it has boat transportation to and from the Magic Kingdom. It has bus transportation to all the other parks just like AKL.

For more information on AKL go to: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_akl.htm

For more information on WL go to: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_wl.htm

For more information on all the resorts, go to: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm

We stayed at the AKL in Dec of 2002. It is a really cool place to stay. But it is far ( near the all star resorts) We had a car when we stayed there and we were really glad we had one.

I would reccommed renting a car if you stay there.

Many thanks

I did not know if my son would like the wilderness lodge (he is 6)
But I am going to look at what you sent! I really appreciate all the help... I went two years ago with him (his first trip) and we stayed off the resorts at a nearby hotel and it was so so... This time I am going all out! So any advice that you guys have given me is sooooooooooo helpfull!!!

Just FYI, we stayed last year at WL and both my kids (Son 7 at the time, and Daughter 3 at the time) LOVE the WL.

My boss recently stayed at the AKL with 6 grandchildren, ages 4,5,6,10,12, & 18. They all loved it!

Before we purchased into DVC, we always stayed at All Stars and used the extra money on meals and souvineers. Every resort, from All Stars all the way to the Grand Floridian offer lots of Disney Magic and special touches for kids. Any resort you choose will be wonderful!

On resort is the best way to go,also I never rent a car if you are not going off resort save the money ,the transportation is very adequate....if I missed part of your post how many are going with you....if you have more than three I suggest Tiffany towncar service and tell debby John from San Diego sent you

It will be just me and my son going.... Last time we had a car and only used it to go downtown Disney and back and forth, but the bus was just as good.... I dont plan to go to universal this time but I might.... We are only staying 6 days so might skip universal unless my six year old would like it... Im still loooking into that one....

I have never been, but aren't most of the rides at Universal for kids 52" and up??

We always drive, but we park our car and don't use it again until it's time to leave.

I think your right about the rides.... whats funny is my son doesnt like allot of the rides even if he could ride them.... I soon hope he grows out of that fear :-) I think just being in Disney is good enough for him :-) I found a pretty good deal having a car, its only about $100 doillars more.... So I am trying to figure in if its worth the value of having it or not.... Im in between, but leaning more on what you have said....
