POR - Alligator Bayou or Mansions?

We have reservations at Port Orleans - Riverside May 22-28. We stayed at this resort in 2002 in the Alligator Bayou section and loved it. We were so busy while we were there that we did not even see the Mansion section of the resort.

Anyway, when I made our reservation, I did not specify either section.

1) Should I call back and request a section or just wait and be suprised?

2) Which section would you recommend? Why?

3) What info can you give me on the Mansion section of the resort? What is it like?

I will be traveling with my DH, mt DS (8), my mom and my dad. My mom is a BIG fan of Gone with The Wind and my husband likes anything with a rustic feel. So, I am at a loss of what to do.

Thanks in advance for the advice!:dazed :dazed

I would just roll the dice and be surprised. From the pictures, that entire resort looks just beautiful, so who cares which room?

I'm in your boat. I've never stayed there, but I'm off to POR in May. I think I'm just going to fax the room assigner 4 days in advance (like I did last trip at CSR) and request my room in Alligator Bayou. It worked last time. :D

Susan,

I stayed at the POR in December 2002 and November 2003. Both times I stayed in the Mansion section (Magnolia Terrace once and Oak Manor once). The first time I stayed I was with my parents and we had connecting rooms. The second trip was with 4 of my friends also in connecting rooms. Both my parents and my friends (and me!) loved the Mansion section!! The rooms were really quite elegant for a moderate resort and we all really enjoyed the walk across the river to the food court/main lobby in the morning. I am sorry that I have never stayed at Alligator Bayou section so I can't tell you my impressions of that but I am sure those rooms are great too!

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou building 14. It was excellent.

The rooms in the alligator bayou have a trundle bed under one of the double beds. This worked out really nice for my 10 yr. old DGD.

We would definately stay there again.

Thanks for all the info.

Does anyone have any other information on the Mansion rooms?

Alligator Bayou

:)

Alligator Bayou for sure.
you can call back anytime.
We have been going to this resort/poly spilt the two weeks
love it.
We stay in the 1100 area (quiet) if there's such a thing, but it's always quiet and relaxing for us!
We go twice yearly.
Never been a disapointment!

We checked out the Mansions on our last trip, very nice.
But still prefer Alligator Bayou.
Another family or couple thing you may want to do is
going in another direction now....
We also did the captains plan with the boats/bikes @ the Marina.
they don't advertise it and it's a great plan, 225.oo wkly (ask directly at the Marina) the Front Desk never knows about it, too bad, saves alot of money for people!
no set time. Take a pontoon boat from POR to downtown Disney takes about 30 minutes, what a great time!
Renting the other way is too expensive.
We have been doing the captains plan now for a few years, well worth it.
Cannot rent the canopy bikes though, they aren' t owned by Disney, but by a private company.
Still worth it.

Enjoy!
Have a great trip!

Can you tell me more about this? What does the $225/week get you? Is it unlimited use for the week of pontoons and/or bikes? Do you do this in advance or when you get to the resort?

We have stayed at POR 3 times, and have always been given rooms in the mansions.

I believe these rooms are lighter & more elegant & the beds aren't as rustic as those in Alligator Bayou.

We've always had quite good views of the river, even on our last visit in December when we didn't book a water view.

Parking is close to the mansions, which is good at the end of a day walking in the parks & the scenery around them is wonderful.

I think wherever you stay at POR you will love it, so maybe just let it be a surprise.
