rental cars in airport?

Hi,
Which rental car companies are located on the Orlando International Airport (MCO) site and which are off site. I know National is on site, but I was wondering about the others like Hertz.
Thanks.

Re: rental cars in airport?

There are only a couple in the airport:

Alamo
Avis
Budget
Dollar
L and M Car Rental
National

Hertz is a good 2 miles to the North, though their shuttle buses come very frequently, say every 5 minutes or so during the day. That is who we use most of the time. We used Dollar our last trip since we got such a great deal. If you decide to use one of the companies in the airport, make sure you join their program for frequent renters. With Dollar, there was no one in the Fastlane line, while the other line was easily and hour long each time I walked by. The other companies line's were similar. National's was always the longest by far.

Re: rental cars in airport?

I can't recommend enough renting from a company AT the airport!!! We did it once the other way w/ the shuttle, and I REFUSED to ever do that again, lol!!! I wanna enjoy as much of the "magic" as I can, and even though the place is close and the shuttles run frequently, we wound up losing so much time running around like that. :( Maybe only about an hour, but STILL, you know? When we got the car at the airport, we walked right out the door from the baggage claim. Crossed a street. Took an escalator up the parking garage (don't have to use the stairs), and THERE were the cars. You just get one and drive away! Same w/ giving it back. Made it just as easy as having someone pick you up and drop you off at the airport! :)

Is Dollar in the airport??? Some of the companies have desks in the airport, but you still have to go to an off site location?
Thanks

Yes, Dollar is at the airport. We have rented from them and you just walk across the street to get your car.

Re: rental cars in airport?

We've had good luck with Budget a couple of times. Aside from the final cost not always fitting within the Budget , renting at the airport was smooth.

Re: rental cars in airport?

Does anyone know what a van taxi with 4 adults and a bunch of luggage would cost from the Airport (MCO) to the Beach Club?? We'll need an SUV an they are pretty expensive. I was thinking of taking a cab from the airport and getting a smaller car to drive around (I do need one inspite of the excellent WDW transportation).

Re: rental cars in airport?

I had a friend that had a reservation with one company and walked by the L&M booth and next thing he knows he is working out a better deal with them. upgraded to a convertible and saved over 20%. It is always worth a try. Also, send someone for the luggage and you get the car. this just gets you to the magic faster.
Have a great trip.

Re: rental cars in airport?

We've always rented from Alamo and have had no problems. The last time we went (1999) there was a problem with the brakes and they took the car back with no problem. This was after we left the terminal too.

Does anyone know if Alamo is now inside the Orlando Airport, or do you still have to take a shuttle?

We rented an SUV from Budget this past trip - they were having a Florida special - $125 per week, which was lower than what I was getting for normal cars. Make sure you check the SPECIALS pages in your searches. I found that deal in a section separate from the main page-
Here is a similar special:
http://www.budget.com/deals/hotdeals/planahead.jsp

SUV's for 169 a week.

Re: rental cars in airport?

I think Alamo is in airport since National and Alamo are usually paired together, but I can't be sure. I do know that National is in the airport.

I called Dollar last nite and got this great rate for this July in Orlando, when comparing them to anyone else. However I compared it to another trip we are making to Tampa, and they were higher. I checked both online and via phone. Go figure???

Re: rental cars in airport?

I wanted to second what tkroar said about sending someone to the rental car place and someone else to wait for luggage. We do this every time and have never had to stand in a long car rental line. Also, when booking car rentals, there are not any penalties for cancelling a reservation so... book the first good deal you see but keep shopping for a better deal. If you find it, book it. You can go to www.orlandoairports.net to get a complete list of all the rental car companies that are onsite.

Re: rental cars in airport?

hi

we are leaving in 6 days - cant wait - do you have a SAMS CLUB card - i am a manager there and if you have a card there are special discounts with them if you say and show it at check in - we are only renting for four days from disney to tampa and rented a full size van - we are picking it up from lake buena vista hilton and returning it to tampa airport and it was under 250.00.
it is from avis - but i know there are other rental agencies that honor this discount - also try AAA and AARP. good luck and have a magical stay.
