Re: Shades of Green

caseywirth, it has been at least two years since we were there, just for my husband and son to play golf. The course was fun, though not as difficult as Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines, and not as Disney-fied as the Magnolia, Palm and especially Lake Buena Vista. At that time, Shade of Green was a military hotel (I have no idea if that has changed). But since we are not involved in the military, we weren't able to participate with a lot of the stuff going on in the hotel. However, all the military families seemed to be having an absolutely terriifc time!

Yes it is a military facility. You pay according to your rank. It was closed for about a year but I believe it is back open now.

Re: Shades of Green

SoG is open and from what I have been able to read things are going great. We have a member here at DC, Franco54, who just returned. Hopefully he will see this and add his thoughts. He did write a trip report you might read as well. I will be at SoG in early/mid July so I should be able to answer future questions too.

Re: Shades of Green

There are some trip reports on tripadvisor.com. SOG appears to be fully operating now. My family is staying there May 21-26, I'll post a report when we return. We're non-military (my sister is sponsoring us) and used to the Disney hotels so I'm anxious to see how it compares.

Yes, non-military can stay at SoG. Only DoD/military can make reservations but they can book up to 3 rooms for friends or family. The friends/family do not have to be DoD. We are able to stay at SoG because we are going with some good friends who can book at SoG because of 100% disable vet status.

Re: Shades of Green

Only if you're traveling with someone who's eligible to stay there (military, certain government employees, etc.). We can't even check in without my sister, she has to be with us to show her military ID. An eligible person can sponser up to three rooms in the same stay, which is what my sister is doing.
