There shouldn't be any "boy" or "girl" character meals. But not only have they duplicated this "princess" thing fifty times over which appeals only to the most effiminant(sp?) of girls, but they're even SAYING it's only for girls like with the GF tea. I read their new brochure for their NYC 5th Ave Disney Store "experience" and it SAYS it's for girls. How on earth is that even legal??? It's very disheartening that even Disney is apparently doing their best to nuture and encourage stereotyping of "boys" and "girls" -- don't they have psychologists??? It's not like it would be difficult for them to even things out -- there's Jessie and BoPeep in Toy Story, throw the Princes into the Princess things with more fevor(sp?). They need to stop making EVERYTHING so sickeningly "girlie". We've even had posts on here about boys who kinda like CRT, but the poor things are probably mortified to admit it 'cause Disney keeps going on about how it's a girls-only thing. They're not even in the 1980's with the attitude!
I couldn't be in less of an agreement with you! Saying that certain character meals, and even certain characters for that matter are for just one sex, is EXTREMELY sexist, IMHO! Sometimes, you'd think the women's movement had never happened! This is not the worst of sex/gender stereotyping I have seen, not by far, but still quite surprising, especially since Michael Eisner is so big on Political Correctness (ie: not releasing Song of the South on video or DVD).

In fact, some guy from another Disney website forum group (out of respect of his privacy, I will not identify his name or the Disney group) actually wouldn't even let his son (appox. 8 or 9 y.o., maybe 10) eat at the character breakfast at CRT, because he thought anything involving Cinderella or the princesses was too "girly" and completely inappropriate for his son! He took his son to the Country Dancing show (now gone) at Diamond Horseshoe Saloon, while his wife and daughter (approx 5 or 6 y.o.) ate at the CRT character breakfast. He and his son's breakfast consisted of a bowl of cold cereal and whatever beverages they drank with them in their hotel room at the Contemporary.

Actually, there were sometimes problems at the Villian meals at 1900 Park Faire sometimes DID get ugly! There was even a writeup about this in The Unofficial Guide to WDW. One reader claimed that the Queen of Hearts chased his already-frightened 5 year old daughter out of the restaurant's lobby and down a hallway, screaming and crying! To make matters worse, this was her birthday meal! Fortunately, none of the other villians behaved that way; in fact, Captain Hook and Prince John (from Robin Hood) were wonderful with the kids!

Just my two cents!

Re: Reinstate the Villain Character Meal!!

I hear about that situation with the Queen of Hearts and it was completely mistaken by the family in question. The child got unreanably upset and the Queen went after her and the family in attmpt to explain along with the handler. The entire situation got blown way out of proportion. The family stated that they did not understand that that meal at 1900 Park Fare for dinner was a villian meal when they made a PS for dinner. However, they were greeted in the lobby by the Queen of Hearts. The family then stated that other villians attempted to "attack" and "bother" their daughter during her dinner and the final incident occurred when the Queen of Hearts brought the child her birthday cake and the child ran from the room sobbing. Now, pardon me, but I think that some of the blame goes to the person at Disney reservations who made the PS for that meal for not stating "you do understand that this meal at 1900 park fare is a Villian character meal." Then, I believe the entire situation could have been avoided because I don't think those parents would have made that PS with that child knowing that she was that sensitive.

I mean the Queen of Hearts got right up in LilBrer's face during Spectromagic twice. So close, she had to lean back on the curb, and she just laughed. I mean really. She's a villian people. What do you expect? I spent the entire time at Disney hoping that I would run into Maleficent, because she is the Queen of all evil and that would be the ultimate character interaction for me. This is what a Villian character meal is about and there are ways to avoid the above situation I just don't think that Disney took the time to implement what was necessary to keep this meal. However, the villians are becoming more popular now, and they may not be able to avoid bringing that meal back. Wouldn't that be wonderful.

Where did you get this extra information about the incident? I read this in the WDW Unofficial Guide, but the rest of what you said never was mentioned in the book.

Re: Reinstate the Villain Character Meal!!

Do we really need to continue to debate about this?

I mean, clearly, there are people that can't discern the difference between acting and reality. I've seen plenty of people get accosted by the Queen of Hearts and 99% of them think it's funny. Personally, I think it's hysterical. But, if a kids gets scared, the handler is always quick to jump in and the Queen's attitude changes abrubtly. I've seen this happen.

Kent, while I agree with your comments about whether certain events should be considered "sexist," I think you're missing the point about a Villains meal. Bear in mind that the Unofficial Guide has a bit of an edge to it and sometimes, they go out of their way to cast Disney in an unglamorous light. Can you really imagine a character chasing a scared child? Please. That CM would be fired on the spot. Lawwin's characterization of the event is much more plausible and consistent with the behavior of a minority element of people that like to spoil the fun for everyone else.

Anyway, the petition has been stuck at 202 for about two weeks. I'm really disappointed that I wasn't able to better publicize it.

I think it's obvious that these psycho parents are the real Villains.

Re: Reinstate the Villain Character Meal!!

Merlin is right it's usually corrected by handlers. Villians are just being Villians, but they are certainly not there to scare the kids.. Some people take things to far...

I just posted the links at another Disney website. I'm really surprised you didn't get more signatures than that.

Re: Reinstate the Villain Character Meal!!

ROFL!
:c)

I think it's awful...I've had to SEARCH and SEARCH for a meal that my little girl (who would be mortified at a Disney Princess breakfast) and my son (we wouldn't get him in the door - Disney or not) would be happy at...I've signed the boys petition...I can't wait to see it happen!
It doesn't have to be a total BOY character meal. Just something not so feminine as Amneris stated...
