Have I made a mistake?

Hi all,
A few days ago I made my PS for Jiko at AKL. It is our 25th anniversary and I wanted this to be a nice dinner. Just now I read a few restaurant reviews that weren't all that exiting.
Who has been there and what is your take on the place?
Also, I forgot to ask the CM what the dress code is for this restaurant.

Your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I haven't eaten there, but I have heard that you need to have an open mind. It's all very good, just maybe not what you're used to. We're planning on eating there when we go down in December. I've had a number if folks tell me that it's very good.

If you're not quite ready for a culinary adventure for your honeymoon, you might also consider the California Grill @ the Contemporary or Narcoosee's at the Grand Floridian.

Garsh, Merlin, being European, I find the mid western cuisine a bit on the slow side, shall we say. I am always up for adventure. I just don't like food gone wrong.

So I guess I'll see what I'll see.
Now, I take it that I cannot walk in there in my beach attire...Should we bring evening wear?

Don't worry about the garb --All restaurants at WDW allow casual attire!

Except Victoria and Albert's. If you want adventure, I'd stick with Jiko. I haven't eaten there but I plan to when I stay at AKL next year.

Casual attire (slacks and a nice shirt) will be just fine for this restaurant. It's a beautiful restaurant. I had the pleasure of having their breakfast and had no trouble finding many things that I liked. You will have a great dinner.

I read the same review about Jiko as you did. We ate at Boma and really loved it! That is what we wanted to do anyway as I like having lots of choices and their buffet sure fit the bill. I suppose though for your 25 anniversary you might not want to get up and get your own food. I hope you enjoy no matter where you eat.

My family and I didn't care for the food at AKL. But our tastes are New England. You may also want to make a second PS for OHanna's if you have the time. Nice place and good food.

Dana and CaribBeachNut, I've done it! Yes, I know I have told you in another thread that I do not like entertainment with my food but. I thought about that and went ahead and changed my PS from Jiko to OHana. The CM made a note to put us at a window table so we would be able to see the fireworks. I think that the boys might enjoy this just a bit more. I'd hate to spend money and have them turn up their noses at something

You will not be sorry for your change here. The only entertainment is the cocnut races and the hula contests the kids can do. The restaurant is VERY familyish and yet the atsmosphere still manages to be very romantic. It's an ideal choice. They treat you so well here . You are going to be very pleased with your decision. Make sure to tell the server that you are celebrating your anniversary. They may bring you a cake

Wow - Jiko is one of my favorite restaurants at WDW. The food isn't "out there" at all - they have lots of steaks & seafood, nothing spicy - just really good. Excellent wines too and a waitstaff who know exactly what wine to pair with what you are eating. I love Ohanas too & would highly recommend it, but for a special occasion, Jiko is my pick for an adult night out. There aren't many kids there, the atmosphere is more sophisticated & the food is absolutely amazing. I saw you already changed your PS but I would really recommend trying Jiko.

sheesh... I am really getting so confused. So many good places to eat at and sooooo little time. It looks as though there is a whole new way of thinking about WDW and a good reason to actually make this an annual pilgrimage.
In 100 years we may have seen and experienced it all.
I think I will stay with Ohana and save Jiko for another time. This is not only our anniversary but also the boy's 11th birthdays. So it's more for them than us.
