Need Help picking terrific restaurants and PS
Ok everyone,
It is time to do the planning of the meals.. and since this is my first trip every HELP!!!!!! I am wondering if I should do the fantasmic dinner pkg ..I am going Jan 22-28 so I am wondering if I will need it.. WHat about character dinners? I really can afford to do one because I want to do Ohana's, and I want to do Hoop de doo revue.. which character dinner is best?? Is there a good restaurant to eat at to watch wishes? Or Illuminations at Epcot? Or is it better to watch them outside somewhere? If so any suggestions as to where to go to get the best spots for the fireworks? Oh my gosh, my brain is in overload.. I am almost 90 days away and I'm so scared I am going to miss something.. or not know of a fabulous restuarant that I should have gotten PS's for LOL Any help would be SOOO appreciated!! ![]()

My DH and I had the best seats for Illuminations @ the Rose and Crown in Epcot. Our table was right next to fence that goes around the lake. It was perfect. It's really nice if you can make your dinner arrangements around the show time cause you get front row seats and no crowding.

Re: Need Help picking terrific restaurants and PS
O'hanna's for dinner is not a character meal, but an excellent dinner. They have a character breakfast only. Hoop-de-doo is a blast!! Definately do it if you have just one choice. The Fantasmic package isn't necessary that time of year, but I still book. I like having the seperate entrance and being able to only wait a half hour. You have to eat dinner anyway, so it's not a bad deal. The best bang for you buck would be Hollywood and Vine, but Momma Melrose's is another excellent meal. The Brown derby, which also come with the package, is very nice, a tad expensive, and more adultish.

If you are looking for some place to eat on Wednesday or Saturday nights, and you like ribs,go to Boma's in the AKL. They have all-you-can-eat ribs on those days.

Re: Need Help picking terrific restaurants and PS
Hoop Dee Doo is great, but I haven't seen it in nearly 20 years. I have a feeling we may do it when my folks come down with us next year. It's also not a character meal, but it's real fun.
Ohana's is great, particularly if you get a seating about 45 minutes prior to Wishes and can get a table close to the windows. Even if you can't get close the windows, you can still see Wishes across the lagoon. They turn the lights down and pipe the music into the restaurant. Rose & Crown is a great vantage point for IllumiNations, but also the Cantina at Mexico is great counter-service food with a terrific view. You'll need to stake out a table at least 60-90 minutes before the show. If you buy Passporter (which I highly recommend) there's a map of all the best vantage points for IllumiNations.

Re: Need Help picking terrific restaurants and PS
Based on all the positive feeback from folks here at DC, we tried California Grill which is on the 15th floor (top) of the Contemporary. One of the best restaurants in WDW, if not all of Orlando. Great view of the "Wishes" fireworks show from MK. You will need a PS and also will need to know what time "Wishes" is scheduled (if at all) for that particular night. If it gets too tough to coordinate, you can always go there for just drinks and dessert and still see the show. PP

You'd better start pacing yourself or take up yoga or something. Remember - this is suppose to be FUN! And you will do just fine. O'hana's is a great choice for dinner and Wishes. Definitely more of a family place than California Grill and a lot more reasonable, cost-wise. And I agree with Dana, even though there's no need for a Fantasmic Dinner Pkge. in Jan., I would get it anyway, it'll be one less thing to worry about. Hollywood & Vine (a buffet) or Mama Melrose's (Italian sit-down) would probably be your best bets. Personally, I wouldn't worry about a restaurant to watch Illuminations. I would choose an Epcot restaurant that really appeals to you, and eat early enough to be out in time for Illuminations. In January, there will be plenty of good spots to view it. Now, breathe deep and relax. ![]() |

Re: Need Help picking terrific restaurants and PS
Here is my opinion of what i KNOW you can't miss and what I have HEARD you can't miss:
Chef Mickey's---breakfast or lunch O'hanas Cinderellas Royal Table (ive heard that this is closed sometime in the near future I dont know the exact dates) 50's Prime Time Cafe have you ever looked at www.allearsnet.com? best web site in the world next to DC...it has ANYTHING you ever wanted to know about eating at wdw...also, to tell you the truth, i dont think that you need to worry about making a PS for every single day that your there...the food courts aren't all that bad..and sometimes its nice to not have to worry about time restraints.....hope this helps a little bit!
