Thoughts on 'Ohana
Pete and I ate at 'Ohana for the first time last month. After hearing everyone on DC rave about it I thought we should try it, especially since we were at the Poly.
But I was EXTREMELY underwhelmed. Am I the only one? We had dinner, it was family style, but IMHO it really wasn't anything special, and I probably wouldn't go again. Did I miss something? ![]()

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
I like it, but its not my favorite. I agree with you, I think it could be better, food-wise. I like a bit more variety. Its fun in a big group; 12 of us went and that was pretty cool, especially when my friends got up and hula-hooped!

Oh, no should I change my PSs for the third time? Will I regret this? I am such a snob when it comes to restaurants

Jenny:
I could definately understand how a young couple wouldn't enjoy it as much. To us, Ohana is definately worth doing once in a while. We enjoyed it, but won't go back in December. The food was good, especially the wontons. But honestly, it really wasn't anything to write home about. It's typical polynesian/phillipine style family food. It's good, but certainly not fancy. The entertainment was cute, but it got old real fast. The constant references to "cousins" really lost it's punch because it seemed so trite. So, despite these "observations", I'd still highly reccommend Ohanas to any family. We really had a good time and if you can get a seating close to Wishes, then you can see the fireworks from your table. cj2004, you should definately keep the PS. I'm fairly confident that you'll have a good time.

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
I think it's like any other restaurant--you will find some who love it, some who hate it, and some who could take it or leave it. We happen to enjoy it but I don't expect everyone to have the same opinion. I am willing to try any restaurant once just to experience it.
There have been other 'Ohana threads just like this with very different views. This might help--then again it may not! http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=9230

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
This is the first I've heard of anyone not raving about Ohana's. We're going basically because I love the Poly and want my kids to see the resort I spent time at as a child and because all of my children, even my oldest at 13 love Lilo and Stitch - and, since we can't afford to take the 4 of them to Maui - they'll get a little taste of it. Besides, what kid doesn't like eating meat off a stick?
I hope we'll enjoy it, and as a family that really only goes out to eat to places like Chuck E Cheese and Friendly's, it will be a nice change. Jen

I am one that is all for Ohanas I guess all the meat you can eat is what I love about it I love the shrimp and I just love the appetisers Its like all restaurants you find some that love it some that hate it I for one am not a big fan of Le Cellier but I know a lot of people love it I dont know When I went there last year in October the service was not that great plus to me the portions were way to small for the price it was

I too have a PS for here for the first time. I have seen people raving about it and also those that didn't care for it. I have never seen someone just downright think it was terrible so I figure why not give it a try.
I think the key to reviews is finding someone who seems to have similiar tastes to yours (rates places you know you love high) and then take their word a little more than some others who don't have similiar tastes.

This is such a good example of how everyone is different and we all enjoy different restaurants for different reasons. I enjoyed Ohana's - but I think one of the main reasons was because I could say STOP - ENOUGH FOOD. For the same reason, I LOVE Le Cellier, because to me the portions are manageable. I find that most restaurants at WDW serve portions that are way too big for me. My husband ends up eating it, so it won't go to waste, and then feels sick the rest of the day. |

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
We went with a group of 9 in January & everyone really enjoyed it. We were also there during Wishes so we had fabulous window seats for the fireworks which was really nice. My kids kept busy trying new foods and learning to hula and all that stuff. I wouldn't think it would be fun with just my dh - it was more of a group fun for us. I will definitely go back again - my kids rave about it too!

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
We also have a PS for dec. I am wondering if this is a good idea. I will probably like it but my husband doesn't like anything oriental (chinese-japanese) Does all the food have the same flavoring as oriental? My ds is also a concern. He is four and loves mac n cheese, chicken fingers, pizza. Is it like the other buffets? will it have a kiddie buffet???

Re: Thoughts on 'Ohana
We ate there when we stayed at the Poly and, although it was good, it wasn't our favorite. I also thought the same of the Poly itself. I had always dreamed of staying there but once we did, I wasn't that impressed (like WL much better). I would still go one time - don't change a PS. It wasn't bad, just not OUTSTANDING.

I wouldn't classify it as a buffet. You are served at your table. They advertise "alternate childrens selections upon request" I would call and see what those are. I also wouldn't call it Asian Cuisine. My DH is a meat and potatoes guy and he does fine. We enjoy Ohana, and eat there often. It is a nice change of pace. DH eats the steak and Pork, I eat the Shrimp and Turkey. He gobbles up the wings, salad and green beans and leaves the rice and wontons for me. They have great drinks and desserts also.
