What counter service restaurants do you like?

I've decided to eat at mostly counter service restaurants during my upcoming trip. Budget concerns are partly to blame for my unusual lack of table service restaurants in my itinerary. I also want to be more flexible during this trip. I'm attending my first Mousefest (yea!) and want to be free to join other Mousefesters in any spur of the moment plans and not feel tied to previously made arrangements.

So, getting to the point (finally) what counter service restaurants have you enjoyed, and why? I've been looking at the menus at allearsnet.com and several of the restaurants have caught my eye. Sharing some of your experiences, though, sure would help me narrow down my choices.

Thanks,
Amy

Re: What counter service restaurants do you like?

We really enjoy Cosmic Rays in tomorrowland at MK. They offer a family chicken meal that is very reasonably priced. We also enjoy Flame Tree Barbecue in the AK. Pecos Bills has a large fixins' bar. I haven't really had many unenjoyable meals now that I stop to think about it! Bet you get tons of replies to this post! Have fun!!

Those are two that we really enjoy, too!
If you have kids, go to Pizza Planet in MGM. In EPCOT, we always just nibble our way through WS because there is so much good food.

In the MK:Columbia Harbor House

In Epcot:Electric Umbrella and the American Adventure place

MGM:The various places by the entrance to Fantasmic

AK:Flame Tree Barbeque

Keep in mind not to go during peak lunch times. I was at MK on 11/4,and I waited a half hour at CHH for my bowl of clam chowder!!!!!!

We always go to Peco's Bills, too. The fixin's bar is superb, the salads are wonderful, and the kids meals are great.

We like Pecos Bill too but if you are in the mood for something besides Hotdogs and Hamburgers you should try the Columbia Harbor House. You can get a great White Tuna sandwich or a great Ham sandwich on very good multigrain bread. You can check out the menu on allearsnet.com.

Re: What counter service restaurants do you like?

MK - Columbia Harbor House, Pecos Bill (to a lesser extent)
EPCOT - Tangiering Cafe, Harry Ramsden Fish and Chips, Yakitori House
Disney-MGM - None really, but ABC is ok
Animal Kingdom - Tusker House

Re: What counter service restaurants do you like?

Thanks for all the great ideas so far. I did manage to make one decision on my own. Since I'm an absolute sucker for the Cobb salad and chocolate flourless cake at The Brown Derby at MGM, I'm pleased to learn that both of these are available as counter service items next door at Starring Rolls Bakery. They might not be the same without the yummy crab cakes on the side, but I'm looking forward to giving it the ol' college try!

Re: What counter service restaurants do you like?

My family really likes Columbia Harbor House as well. It works well for budget minded because the portions can be split. Two items is more than enough for the three of us. Even with drinks, you are looking at less than $25 for three to eat.

Get there a little early for lunch (11:30-11:45) to avoid the lines, and go upstairs to find a table. We always get a table at a window over the walkway from Fantasyland to Liberty Square.

Enjoy!

Re: What counter service restaurants do you like?

The more I think about it, why should you miss out on some great dining experiences. Maybe I do not eat as much as others, but why not eat at a sit down service and split some entrees (as opposed to buffets which can be expensive).

You did not say you were going by yourself.

I think '50s Prime Time is a great place to eat. If I recall, you get almost half a fried chicken on the plate. Request an extra plate, and an appetizer of french fries. We do this all the time because I cannot bring myself to let the little one eat mac and cheese or PBJs for days on end. May be a little more than the family meal at Cosmic Ray's, but a much better dining experience.

Enjoy
