Contemporary Resort restaurant news

Word has it that plans are in the works for a complete overhaul of the Contemporary Resort, including a refurbishment of the top-floor California Grill. New York designer Jeffery Beers will be in charge. Word also has it that another adult restaurant will be added to the Contemporary lineup. The Contemporary redo, by the way, will supposedly eliminate the tired-looking Jetsons lobby.

No, don't take away the Jetson's lobby, even if the Jetsons are now a Time Warner property! If you do that, it would be like gutting the hunting lodge lobby of the Wilderness Lodge.

YES, our very own disneyboy confirmed this a little while ago. He is a CM at the Contemporary and shared the info over on the Rehab Schedule Plan on the Chit Chat Forum. The rehab is begining this month on one of the wings. No time schedule has been announced yet, and will be determined later. I hadn't heard of the rehab about California Grill. Thanks Park Hopper!!

The 4th Floor Observation Deck will remain open and still plays the music along with the show. As a matter of fact not many guests know that the California Grill recently stopped playing the music and dimming the lights for the fireworks so that more guests could be served in their short span of operating hours. You can still go on the 15th floor observation deck if you are dining but they no longer stop the operation for the fireworks.

Thanks for the kind words, disneyguy. I just don't have the time anymore to visit DC on a regular basis. I'll still jump on the boards when time permits or when I hear some juicy news, but otherwise I'm pretty much on voluntary hiatus.

Unfortunately, it could really throw a wrench into part of plans this May

. We had hoped to do the Chef Mickey character breakfast for our kids

as well as catch a romantic dinner for the two of us at the California Grill

. I'm eager (like many here, I'm sure) to hear the specifics on the schedule if any of you hear more.

Don't fret Dr. Teeth, the Tower building will be the last on the refurbishment schedule. You are just fine in May considering this will be a multiple year refurbishment, I guarantee that you are all set for May if you book your PS in advance!
