Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

I have read through so many threads on this already, but I am such an easily confused person...I feel like I'm still lost on this new meal plan thing.

Let me see if I have this figured out right:

The "meal plan" most people are talking about is NOT part of a Dream Maker package...it is added onto Magic Your Way tickets? So it's sort of like a package without the hotel?

The meals included with a Silver Dream Maker package are based on whether or not you decided to use your "wishes" right? But this ticket-based meal plan includes a certain number/type of meals per day? (I think someone said one counter service, one full-service, a snack and a drink? Or something like that?)

My head is just spinning on this whole issue. Somebody please help me figure it all out!

Re: Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

Facts I know about meal plan.

It is per night. So, you book a room for 7 nights, but have tickets for 4 days, you get the meal plan for 7 nights. This is added on to your hotel, not your park ticket.

You get 3 meals a day. 1 snack, 1 counter service, 1 sitdown meal. 2 sitdowns can get you a show, or signature restaurant.

From what I understand, they can be 'banked'. Meaning, if you don't use your counter service one day, you can use two the next day, etc.

35 dollars per night, per adult...10 per kid per night.

I thought it was worth it at first, but now I'm not sure, since the list of available restaurants has shrunk.

Let me know if you have any more info...I'm trying to make sense of this, too.

It would cost me 150 dollars a day to feed my family of 4 and a half.
It would only cost me 90 plus breakfast (which I don't eat, and I can bring cereal, etc for kids) with meal package.

Re: Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

Okay, so it's added onto your hotel. That makes more sense.

Does Mickey or anyone have a list of the restaurants that are included in the meal plan?

As long as the unused meals can be banked, I think it would definitely be worth it to us. I would be concerned if they expired at the end of each day, because I like to hop around WDW so sporratically that I can never predict where I'll end up eating each day!

DH wants to know if any character meals are included as sit-down meals?

Re: Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

Thank you Erin!! You've been such a help!

Do we book the meal plan at the same time as our room reservations, or do they have to be made through WDW-DINE?

And ONE MORE thing......is the meal plan prepaid? If not, is there a deposit required?

Oops, that was kind of like two more things.

When you call the reservation line, I believe you just order it then...

I think you just pay for it when you pay for everything else.

Also, for meals requiring you to prepay - I believe you go ahead and prepay, and they reimburse your credit card...I don't know that for sure, though. Disneyboy would know.

Re: Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

If you normally eat at a sit down or character meal everyday then I think it is worth it. for my family of 5 it would cost me $125/day and we normally spend less than that a day on food. So for us I dont think it would be worth it. I think it would encourage us to overeat just to get our money's worth. We normally eat things like granola bars and stuff we bring from home for breakfast. Maybe $30 for a counter service lunch, and maybe $50-60 for dinner and snacks. that's only $90 tops. I do like the conveince factor of prepaying for meals but I am not going to pay that much for the convienence.

The way I understand it if you do many sit down or character it would be good. The sit down meals include appetizer and dessert. Also tax and tip. you just sit down and eat.

Sad to report, that we decided against it. We decided against it for 2 reasons: 1) Mom already had unused tickets from a previous trip, so why pay for tickets if you already have them. 2) We would have lost our room discount ($240 dollars in savings already).

I am trying to get some families at school to book it with the Dining Plan, and get them to tell me how it works. I doubt that will work, but hey!

Let me do one last quick run through on the Dining Plan:
OK It is officially called the Magic Your Way Package plus Dining. It includes 1 sitdown, 1 counter-service, and 1 snack for $35/dollars per night of your stay. There is a list of approved resturaunts that you are allowed to go to (posted above). If there is a resturaunt you want to go to that is not on that list you can use 2 sitdowns and go. The same things applies for Hoop De Doo, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, and Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. A snack is defined as a popcorn, ice-cream, bottle of water, or a soda.

Re: Pleeease help me clarify this meal plan thing

ok--heres my take on it--when dave and i go back in may i think that it IS worth it..
and heres why--
say we eat a rose and crown...it includes main entree, appitizer and non-alcholic drinks and tips..the steak and prawns is 20 bucks by itself...plus and appitizer which is about six dollars...plus a soda which is what 3 dollars almost...
so for one person thats (say you half the appitizer...) 26 bucks a person...plus tip...30...(on our last trip we spent over 80 dollars at rose and crown..)
so if we use the meal plan we would still have a quick service and a snack that we could buy...where as if we simply budgeted thirty five dollars a day we would only have 5 dollars left to eat each...
so..for a couple of two..i think its an excellent idea..espically if you want to eat "nice" everynite..by nice i mean not your classy establishments like narcosses and victoria and alberts..but your rose and crowns, mamma melroses..etc..etc.....and when your young and on your anniversary...why not?
now if we had kids im NOT sure if id do it...bc kids friendly restaurnts (such as character dining...which we would totally do anyways...but if you ate there everytime) you just seem to "break even".......

I still think it's worth it with kids. Kids are only 10 dollars a day.

I could easily spend twice that on them.

I think what the meal plan is really doing is allowing us to eat at a nice place every night, and not just have food court food.

Just a thought...
