Icon13 O'hana's disappointment

just back me, DH, DD 5 1/2 & DS 2. Had PS for Thursday night 2/10 @ 5:30 & boy were we disappointed in the food. We got right in & my DD & DS loved the coconut broom race & the hula hoop contest but the food was dry & burned. For the amount of money we spent I guess we just expected better food & we are not picky eaters at all!! We did get to see Wishes over the castle so that was a nice touch, FYI they lowered the lights but did not pipe in the music. anyone has any questions just ask & I'll try to help.

Re: O'hana's disappointment

I am really sorry that your O'hanna's experience was less than magical. I am happy that you got to see wishes from there though and your DS enjoyed the games. I have been there twice and have nothing but positve things to say about the experiences, so maybe your's was an off day. I do hope you give them another chance.

Re: O'hana's disappointment

Is O'hana a luau or polynesian style. My DH and I discovered on our honeymmon that we just don't like this type of food. Still doing another luau next trip for the kids to experience it, but it just isn't our favorite.

O'hana's is an all you can eat sit down meal. They bring you salad & some picky foods & dips on a lazy susan in the middle of the table & then they bring you the shrimp & meats on skewers. They keep on offering you more as you eat. Maybe we did have an off night, but will probably not go back. To many other interesting places to try

Re: O'hana's disappointment

O'hana is not to be confused with the luau. I thought O'hana was very average, but the luau is wonderful!

I agree with you 100%..........Ive said it here before but my 'Ohanas experience was anything but wonderful either.....the fact that i had heard they piped in the music, and then didnt, was a HUGE dissappointment since we were not planning to see Wishes up close (we ended up going..thank god..)..and it seemed that during the show the servers stop all serving..which is a nice idea so that people can see the show..but..we didnt have any drinks left or any meat left...and then after the show they refilled our drinks and never...ever brought us any more food...we were only served steak and turkey...we never saw the shrimp or pork...i will admit what we had was excellent..the service was just crap (btw i just realized we were never once called "cousin"...isnt that like their trademark?) we'll probaly go again and hope for a better server...just not for awhile...

they all called us cousin. I totally agree with you on the service, it was horrible!!!!!!!! I don't think they took one think off of our table, it was so cluttered we couldn't move I guess I just expected more for the amount we were paying & from all of the praise from these boards. Big disappointment

Re: O'hana's disappointment

I think sometimes the food is hit or miss. I have experienced dried out burned turkey. But the very next time served, during the same visit, the turkey was delicious. I do admit I gobble down the Shrimp, and have never had bad shrimp.

Re: O'hana's disappointment

We went in December for DH's bday and had a 5:10 PS. We LOVED it and had great servers. They kept the drinks flowing and the food kept coming and coming..we never wanted for a single thing. They brought out a desert for DH and sang Happy Bday. We were called cousin a couple times and the staff was very attentive to us b/c DH has a shrimp allergy. The chef even came out to talk to DH when we first arrived. During our meal we sat right at the window and got to watch the castle change colors. Also someone got married in the gazebo while we were eating and a nice little fireworks show went on right outside the window we were sitting at. We had a really good experience w/ great service, so we are very greatful for that. Had it not been great, I definately would have been disappointed to spend that much $.

Hmm We loved the food at Ohanna's and thought the Luau's food rated a low "OK". The main thing we disliked with the luau is the fact that couples can not sit next to each other, you must sit accross from each other and the tables are so big because there is the platter holder in the middle of the table. We will not do the luau ever again even though the show is great, but we will be doing Ohannas a few times next time we are there.

I am sorry to hear that they didn't pipe in the music for Wishes. They did when we were there.
This isn't a restaurant where you go solely for the food, I think, it's the experience on the whole. Nothing special but also nothing to sneeze at.
Not a couples restaurant to be sure.

Re: O'hana's disappointment

It's nice to see that it is about 1/2 and 1/2 and not all bad. I just booked O'hana's for our trip..dinner. DH can be very picky at times while DS is always willing to try something. I hope we have a good experience.

One question.....should we request to be seated by the windows or the fire pit? I read to request a table in the room with the firepit, but I would really like to see the view too.

Re: O'hana's disappointment

I am sorry your meal was less than great. 'Ohana is a must do for us and we have never been let down.

The fire pit is in the main dining area so you can get a window seat and still be in the general fire pit area.
